Bob Marley was—and indeed, is—a world-famous Jamaican reggae musician.
Born in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica in 1945, Marley was a living legend known not only for his beautiful, inspiring music, but for being a politically conscious figure who integrated concepts of empowerment, love, contentment, spirituality, and social justice into his art form.

Early career
Marley began his career in a band called the Wailers in the early 60s.
By the late 1960s, he had become a Rastafarian, which influenced his music heavily. In the 1970s, he formed the band Bob Marley and the Wailers, and the group released several highly successful albums that effectively introduced the entire world to reggae. In 1981, however, Marley’s life was cut short when he died of cancer at the age of 36.

At his funeral, Jamaican Prime Minister Edward Seaga delivered the final eulogy to Marley, saying: “His voice was an omnipresent cry in our electronic world. His sharp features, majestic looks, and prancing style a vivid etching on the landscape of our minds. Bob Marley was never seen. He was an experience which left an indelible imprint with each encounter. Such a man cannot be erased from the mind. He is part of the collective consciousness of the nation.”
