Many people go through several different relationships in their lives. It’s very uncommon for the first one to be the last. That’s because we make mistakes, we learn, and we grow through each one. There are also certain pairings that just won’t work, which is why it’s so important to see the signs. These relationship deal-breakers are things most people worry about, but in too many cases, they stick it out in the hopes that things will get better.

Join us as we look at three deal-breakers that should raise huge red flags for your relationship. These are things that won’t get better, no matter what your partner says. If any one of these signs come up often in your relationship, you need to seriously consider moving on to something better.

These relationship deal-breakers are signs it won't work

3 Universal Signs That Your Relationship Isn’t Going to Work

If my tone comes across as a little harsh, I don’t mean it to be. It’s just that I’ve seen good people, heck, great people, stick around despite these deal-breakers. As a result, they suffer far longer than they ever should have.

If any of these signs pop up in your relationship, you simply must turn and walk the other way. These are universal deal-breakers that no amount of time or effort can fix. If you’re going to follow any relationship advice for women or men, let it be this one.

Let’s take a look.

Can’t agree on kids

One of the biggest decisions you’ll face as a couple is whether or not to have kids. This is a massive decision to make. People who want kids are ready to make the enormous commitment required and to dedicate their lives to a little one (or ones). But people who aren’t already convinced aren’t going to be easily swayed.

Being on opposite sides of this equation is not something you should have to go through. The same goes for your partner. If you want kids, but the other person doesn’t, you’ll spend your entire life trying to convince them, and you’ll probably end up leaving them in the end to pursue that desire when they don’t .

On the other side, if your partner wants kids, but you don’t, you’ll never be able to truly make them happy. It’s painful to think about, especially if you’re already in love with them, but this is the point where we have to distinguish momentary relationships from marriage.

Opposite financial habits

Finances are another huge source of tension in a relationship. If you’re the kind of person who wants to save as much as possible, but your partner likes to spend like crazy, you’re going to run into more obstacles than either of you can handle.

If there’s a middle ground in sight, then this may not be a deal-breaker. But if the idea of a credit card makes you want to pass out, while your partner has maxed out three, you might be too far apart from each other on the financial spectrum to ever meet halfway.

So there is some leeway with this one, but be vigilant. If you’re constantly fighting about money, then it could be a sign of insurmountable differences in this core area of your lives.

These relationship deal-breakers are signs it's time to get out.

Lack of respect

My final point is one that encompasses a lot of the different aspects of a relationship. When I say lack of respect, I mean in a profound way. If any of these things are recurrent problems, then your relationship is toxic and is causing you to suffer. You need to get out.

  • Your partner habitually cheats on you.
  • He/she is emotionally, verbally, or physically abusive.
  • Your partner is constantly rude or condescending to you.

We all know these are deal-breakers in theory, but far too many of us make up excuses to stay in destructive situations like these. If you see any of these signs, it’s time to leave.

Final Thoughts

A perfect and beautiful relationship is within reach for everyone. It’s all about finding the right person and working hard to improve your lives together every day. Arguments and low points happen, but these three deal-breakers are signs that your relation won’t work. If these problems come up and don’t go away, it’s time to go. Period.
