Nikki Christou – Beauty Lies Within

Nikki Christou shares her story about how important it is not to judge a book by its cover, and to always try to get to know a person so you can find the beauty within.

Transcript:

I was diagnosed with something called an AVM, and basically, on the right side of my face, you have arteries, capillaries, and veins, and on the right side of my face, I don’t have the capillaries in the middle where they need to be. It causes me to have life-threatening nosebleeds and really intense headaches. The lowest point was probably when — not necessarily when veins starting appearing on my face — but when the reality, the medical reality of what I was going to be faced with with, my condition, came to life, and there was one Christmas Eve when I had my first life-threatening nosebleed. That was I think a turning point, when we thought, ‘This is gonna be my life, and this isn’t gonna be normal anymore.’ The message that I want to get across — although most people are judged now on what you look like on the outside — I think it’s really important to not judge a book by its cover.

“If you saw me on the street, you wouldn’t think I was the prettiest girl you’ve ever seen, and I think it’s important to be able to get to know someone before you make any theories. I think that’s what I try to tell people, beauty lies within.”
