Celebrities may feel larger than life, like they don’t live with the same needs as the rest of us, but they do. Celebrities also go through hard times, and when they do, they often only make it through with the support of their friends.
Since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Selma Blair has been leaning on her friends a lot, she told People magazine. Those friends include Cruel Intentions co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon, as well as Jaime King.
"It's the strangest thing that the time that could be the most stressful, I am feeling the most joy," Blair told People. "I think it's because I've learned more than ever that there are people that support me, that love me. I've seen people dedicate their time to help me."
Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own healthy cells, and the disease can be debilitating.
Blair said Sarah Michelle Gellar, known for Buffy stardom, even started a meal train to help Blair and her young son.
"I get weekend meal
packs like I've never feasted on before from Reese Witherspoon, from Constance
Zimmer and so many people I don't even know through Sarah," Blair said.
"[My friends] have stood up in ways I never would have been comfortable
with before."
She also said it's
important for her son "to see me interacting with people and to see mom
laughing with them."
Blair has been incredibly honest on her social media about her ups and downs.
"Today is a banner day," she wrote. "I am being discharged from the care of an incredible team of nurses and techs and a visionary Dr. who believes in my healing as much as I do."
"This has been a process. And will continue to be
one," the caption read. "I am immunocompromised for next three months
at least. So no kisses please."
Blair said she would share more when she is ready. "For now, I have recovery," she added.
It doesn't matter how much fame and money we have, when times are tough, we need our friends -- and it's the friends that rise to the occasion that make all the difference.
