Stevie Wonder (original name Stevland Hardaway Morris) is an American musical genius and a former child prodigy. His work turned him into one of the most successful and popular figures in the history of music.

Because he was born six weeks premature, Wonder suffered from an eye disorder called retinopathy of prematurity. The condition caused the retinas to detach, leading to blindness.

The singer showed an early passion for music. He used to sing in his church choir and by the age of 10, he taught himself to play instruments such as the harmonica, piano and drums.

At the age of 11, Wonder sang his own composition in an audition after which Berry Gordy signed him to Motown’s Tamla label. He quickly became known as Little Stevie Wonder and his remarkable talent led to an amazing music career.

In addition to his impressive body of work, Wonder is also known as an activist for civil rights. He used music to tackle social issues, raise money for different causes and encourage people to love and respect one another.
