Sia Secretly Saved Two Teenagers From Foster Care By Adopting Them

Sia is no stranger to doing good deeds. Last year, she became a mother to two teenage boys who were aging out of foster care--without telling anyone.

Sia is famous for being a secretive character. Her oversized wigs that hide almost her whole face have been a trademark of hers. However, behind the secrecy and eccentric appearance is a kind woman who gives back whenever she can.

Last year, Sia surprised strangers by buying their groceries around Christmas, without wearing her disguise. And recently, she surprised the world by revealing that she is now a mother to two teenage sons.

They were aging out of foster care

In an interview with SiriusXM, Sia revealed that her family had expanded back in 2019.

I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18.they're both 19 years old now. They were aging out of the foster care system. Yeah, and I love them.

She went on to say that the two boys were aging out of the foster care system, which meant that they would soon have been left without a family or home. By adopting them, she made sure they would have a home.

Quarantine has been hard for them

Yes, they found themselves with a new home and family but quarantine has been hard on them nonetheless.

They are both finding it pretty difficult, one more so than the other. But they're both doing things that are really good for them right now that are really helpful. They're really doing a lot of educational stuff that's good for them.

At 44, she is now a grandmother

From becoming a mother only a year ago, Sia has now become a grandmother. She announced the news recently on an episode of DJ Zane Lowe's Apple Music podcast.

My youngest son just had two babies. I'm a f**king grandma! I know, right. 'I'm just immediately horrified.

Sia also expanded on the experience of having two black sons, which has helped her understand trauma from another perspective. Sia mentioned that they had gone through "conditioning and complex trauma" while in foster care but that coming out of foster care allowed them to "bloom."

"It's completely corrupt," she said of the foster care system.

It's failing us... Not in my experience, in my sons' experience. They've been in 18 different locations in their 18 years.

Being the mother of two black sons has also opened her eyes to the realities of racism and her privilege.

I'm embarrassed that it took me to adopt two black sons to really understand what they go through on a daily basis.

Sia cannot avoid her fame

From surprising strangers with their groceries to adopting two teenagers in secret, Sia has been giving back whenever she can. She cannot avoid her fame, but it says a lot that she has not advertised her deeds.

It's an important lesson for us too: being able to help for the right reasons, that is without the motivation of praise or public opinion.
