Teenage Girl Finds Out Beyonce And Jay-Z Are Giving Her A $100K College Scholarship

For most people, being in the crowd for Beyonce and Jay-Z’s On The Run II tour would be more than enough to make their day. However, one teenage girl had a bit more to get excited about -- to the tune of $100,000.

Beyonce and Jay-Z were performing at the State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona when they stopped the show to share a piece of exciting news.

DJ Khaled then appeared on stage to announce what was happening, he said, "On The Run II tour will acknowledge an extraordinary individual making a difference in this world.

"Tonight a student will receive a $100,000 On The Run II scholarship presented by the queen herself, Beyonce, and also the king, Jay Z."

He then gave a shout out to the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Phoenix, who were in attendance that night, sharing that the scholarship would be going to one of them -- Mikayla Lowry.

"I'm so grateful, this is crazy," Mikayla said to the crowd. "I didn't even expect this - I'm shaking!"

According to BGCMP, Mikayla is a senior at Trevor Browne High School. She is currently dual-enrolled at Estrella Mountain Community College and will graduate this year with her completed Associates degree. She hopes to pursue a degree in Marine Biology or Forensics at GCU or Northern Arizona University -- and she will be the first in her family to receive a college degree.

Outside of the classroom, Mikayla gives back to her community by volunteering with BGCMP’s Better to Give program, where she serves in soup kitchens and in shelters.

Beyonce and Jay Z will continue to surprise students in financial need for the duration of their On The Run II tour for a total of $1.1 million in scholarships.

Previous winners include Alezae Uresti, a teen from Houston, Texas who was one of four siblings coming from a single-parent home.

Alezae's mother, Rosa Marsh, told ABC, "I screamed, cried because it's a blessing, because the thought of sending your child to school and not knowing where you going to get the money from."

"It was here where I learned to never give up," Alezae added.

Just when we think we've got it all under control, life has a way of ripping the rug right out from under us. It may be as simple as our car breaking down at the worst possible time (it's always when we have somewhere we really need to be).
