Little Boys Notice Their Neighbors House Is on Fire - Rush to Rescue Toddlers Stuck Inside Despite Being Really Scared

Two young heroes stepped up in a big way in Oakland, Florida when a fire roared nearby. 10-year-old Isiah Francis and 11-year-old Jeremiah Grimes were minding their business when they saw smoke rising up in their neighborhood. What Two Young Boys Did When They Saw a House on FireUnsplash/ Chris KaridisThey quickly noticed that their neighbor's home was on fire, and rushed inside without a second thought. Navigating through heavy smoke and impending panic, the two heroes safely retrieved a 1-year-old and an 8-month-old from the burning house. It is not as if the two were unafraid of the situation, but they had the remarkable courage to overcome their fear -- the true mark of bravery. "I was really scared because I thought I was going to get burned," Isiah even told a local news outlet in Orlando. "I was nervous because there was so much smoke it was hard for me to see," he added. Despite feeling scared, unable to see, and risking his own wellbeing, Isiah and his friend charged into that burning house to save two toddlers. Forget their age, many in that frightening position might have frozen, or called the appropriate authorities. The quick-thinking to charge directly into the home, however, very well could have made the difference between life and death for the two young children they retrieved. How Two Boys Proved That There Is No Age Limit to Being a HeroTheir selfless act of bravery reverberated throughout the community, becoming a beacon of hope and inspiration. News of their heroism spread, captivating the hearts of people across the country. These two are certainly destined to grow into brave young men. Isiah even said he has dreams of becoming a firefighter some day, and he certainly has more experience than most 11 year olds. The cause of the blaze has not been determined, but it is believed to have started on the stove. It is unclear why the father was unable to get all four of his children out of the home, or why the fire began. However, it is certain that Isiah and Jeremiah saved the day. While, hopefully we don't have to run into a burning home any time soon, we can all draw inspiration from the bravery displayed by these two boys. True heroism doesn't lie in accolades or recognition, but in the sum of decisions like these that come to define us.Isiah and Jeremiah's selfless act will forever serve as a reminder that each of us has the capacity to be a hero in our own unique way.Heroism also isn't reserved for a certain age group, and these two showed why everyone possesses the ability to become a hero in the right circumstance. 8-Year-Old Gets Lost in the Woods for 50 Hours - Uses His Wits and Helps His Friend Find Him

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Michigan’s largest state park, is a remote, hilly area dotted with lakes — a favorite spot for hikers, fishermen and campers. Eight-year-old Nante Niemi was there with his family, who was happily participating in all three pastimes. When the group decided to split up, half of them going for firewood and the other half going to fish, Nante decided to go with the group in the woods. After a while, he asked if he could go back to the campsite. It was early afternoon when Nante started walking back to the campsite by himself. That was the last time anyone would see him for nearly 50 hours. How One Little Boy Went Missing in the WoodsPhoto by Felix MittermeierWhen the two groups reunited at the campsite early that evening, they noticed that Nante was missing and immediately started combing the woods themselves. When they couldn’t find him, they called the police.Meanwhile, the eight-year-old boy had wandered over two miles from his campsite and was completely lost in the unfamiliar terrain. But he kept his wits about him and started to devise a plan of action. Nante started by following blue hiking marks on trees but ended up circling the same area over and over. When it started to rain, he took cover under a log.Still, that evening, no help had reached the missing boy. The temperatures plummeted but fortunately stayed above freezing. Nante spotted search helicopters circling overhead, but there was little he could do to attract their attention. An 8-Year-Old’s RealizationPhoto by Brandie RobbinsThat’s when the boy realized that he would have to do something to aid the search and rescue efforts. He stomped his feet in a patch of mud and ran around leaving muddy footprints. In the hilly forest, there were lots of puddles of standing water, but Nante knew he shouldn’t drink it. In order to stay hydrated, he ate snow.Meanwhile, more than 150 search and rescue personnel were combing the area. They covered a 40-square-mile area on foot, in addition to crews searching by air and in the water. The family would later find out that Nante was difficult to find because he kept moving in circles. But it was those muddy footprints that he thought to leave that would eventually lead to his rescue. The Clue That Led to Missing 8-Year-Old’s RescueA volunteer team joined the Michigan State Police to help with the search efforts, and Eli Talisman, a friend of Nante’s, was called in to join them. It was hoped that Nante would call out to a friendly voice or respond to a friendly face. The 18-year-old immediately packed a bag and joined the volunteer team on the ground. They searched for the missing boy in the thick woods, calling out to him and listening for a response. Then they saw the muddy footprints.Colin Gauthier, part of the volunteer group that found Nante, explained, “We had four or five guys there that were looking at these footsteps, and then we heard a sound of some sort. It sounded like a scream, just like a scream, but one of the guys said, ‘Ah, it’s a bird’…we were following these steps in the mud and then, as we were doing that, I heard it again, but this time it was completely clear.”How One Little Boy Used His Wits to Aid in His RescueAs soon as Eli heard it, he jumped into action. “I grabbed my bag that was on the ground and I started sprinting, and I get over this little, tiny hill, and all I see is this little, tiny, white sweatshirt.” Eli looked down to find Nante with a weak smile on his face. He grabbed his young friend up in a bear hug, immensely relieved to have finally found the boy after long hours of searching. Eli laughs as he tells the story of that moment; Nante looked at his friend and asked, "Were you looking for me?"The volunteers got the exhausted child into a carrier pack, and Eli carried him out of the woods. After being checked by medical authorities, Nante was released to his family, safe and sound. Nante’s school district shared the news of the boy’s rescue on its Facebook page. When hearing Nante’s story, it’s easy to forget that this missing boy was only eight years old. He’s in second grade. And yet, miles from his family’s campsite, alone in the woods overnight, he showed remarkable bravery and resourcefulness. Nante kept a cool head throughout the ordeal, making smart decisions when it came to not drinking standing water, sheltering from the rain, and especially, leaving marks for rescuers to find. The experience is something that will likely have a large impact on him, and he can be proud of the part he played in his own rescue.

Stranger Meets Woman at Gas Station and Kidnaps Her - After Nearly a Year, Her Quick-Thinking Saves Her Life

Last December, an unidentified woman finally escaped a living nightmare thanks to a deadbolt and some kind folks at a New Jersey gas station. Now, others are spreading the word to prove yet again how the kindness of strangers can help to put things right in this world.A Living NightmareYouTube/ Inside EditionJane Doe met a man named James W. Parrillo Jr. in February 2022 at a gas station in New Mexico, according to CBS News. In a report, Doe revealed that Parrillo used the name Brett Parker and asked her to drive him to Arizona. She did, and they started a consensual relationship. Once they got to California, though, things changed.RELATED: How One Victim’s Incredible Act of Bravery Ended a Decade of Horrific KidnappingsIt was there he reportedly physically assaulted her for the first time. Doe wanted to leave, but Parrillo had taken her phone and cards, leaving her unable to contact her family or escape. He kept her by his side as they traveled across the country, and every day she thought of ways to flee. When the couple landed in New Jersey at the end of the year, the woman finally saw her chance.A Daring EscapeThere was a gas station close to where Parrillo had rented a room for them, and Doe noticed there was a deadbolt on the inside of the door. So one day, when he began beating her, she fled.“Parrillo began beating and choking her during an argument inside the residence, which they shared with several other individuals,” the attorney general's office said in a release, as per CBS News. “Parrillo allegedly ceased assaulting the woman when he realized the two were not alone in the house, and she ran from the house with nothing on but shorts and a shirt in the 42-degree weather.”RELATED: After the Capture: Where Is Kidnapping Victim Elizabeth Smart 19 Years After Being Rescued?Doe ran right to the gas station, locked the door, and told someone working there she had been kidnapped for about a year. Security footage shows Parrillo following her and trying to get in but then fleeing on a bike as workers calmed the woman down and called authorities."The lady came running, like barefoot, and she was like, ‘he kidnapped me,'” gas station attendant Jamie Garthaus told an NBC News station. “So, we ran inside and locked the door.”Parrillo was picked up by police not far from there and charged with kidnapping, strangulation, aggravated assault, and criminal restraint.A Terrifying History After Parrillo was arrested, his real background came out. Two other women had previously accused him of kidnapping them for about a year each, but no charges were ever laid. Now, thanks to the kindness of strangers and quick thinking from the woman herself, he can’t hurt anyone else.RELATED: 9-Year-Old Girl and Her Baby Brother Kidnapped at 7-Eleven – She Follows Her Gut and Saves Her Brother’s Life“The defendant allegedly held a woman against her will for nearly a year while traveling with her throughout the country before ending up here in New Jersey, where she was able to escape,” added New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin in a statement.“We are reaching out to law enforcement across jurisdictions to identify other people who may have additional information on the defendant. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure we bring justice to this survivor.”Coming TogetherWhat this woman went through is unimaginable and awful, yet stories like this do happen. Thankfully, the woman's quick-thinking allowed her to escape, but it was also the kindness of those working at the gas station that helped catch this man in the end. Had they ignored her pleas for help or shrugged off what she told them and opened the door, who knows what might have happened?Doing nothing or being complacent sometimes makes you a part of the problem, not the solution, and this story is a gentle reminder of that. So the next time you see someone in need or a situation that doesn’t look right, don’t be afraid to question it, speak out, or follow up to make sure that everything is, indeed, okay.Jane Doe has the gas station attendants to thank for her successful escape that day, and she won’t soon forget them.

Brave Teen Risked Everything To Rescue 12 Siblings Caged And Starved By Abusive Parents

Growing up, Jordan Turpin and her twelve brothers and sisters rarely got to see the outside world. Only when their parents left their house in Perris, California were the children able to watch TV- and that is because they would sneakily turn it on. That’s where Jordan saw shows, music videos, and Justin Bieber, who eventually gave her the courage to escape from her abusive parents.“I don’t know where we would be if we didn’t watch Justin Bieber,” Jordan told Diane Sawyer on the 20/20 special “Escape from a House of Horror.”I started realizing that there is a different world out there. I only knew one world and that was like always being there. I was always like, ‘I want to be out there. I want to be like that, being free, not being trapped.’Jordan TurpinAn unbelievable act of braveryDavid and Louise Turpin- who pled guilty to fourteen counts of torture and imprisonment- beat, starved, and caged their children while denying them access to the outside world. In January of 2018, at just 17 years old, Jordan managed to escape and call 911.I was telling them everything. We don’t go to school. We live in filth. We starve. And all the stuff. Jordan to Diane Sawyer"The only word I know to call it is 'hell,'" said Jennifer Turpin, reflecting on the trauma of her childhood. The children's rescueWhen officers arrived at the house, they found garbage, excrement, and moldy food all around the house. Some of the children, who were aged two to 29, were even shackled to their beds. After visiting the hospital, it was discovered that some had developed physical illnesses such as heart problems due to their prolonged malnourishment and physical abuse.Jordan, now 21, and her sister Jennifer, 33, opened up about the abuse for the first time in the 20/20 special which aired on Friday, November 19th. “At first I couldn’t watch it, but then when I finally watched it, because I wanted to see it, I had to, like, pause in a lot of parts because it was really hard for me to watch it,” Jordan told Good Morning America. “It brought back a lot of stuff, and when I saw the camera film of Mother and Father, it- it was very, like, scary, like my heart dropped to my stomach.”Though reliving the trauma in the interview was difficult, Turpin is happy she was able to tell their story.I’m just glad that it’s out there so people can see it and they can hopefully make a good difference, and we can make a change and people know that they have a voice and they can speak up if something’s not right.Jordan TurpinGetting through it as a familyJordan’s courage, with the help of a little inspiration from Justin Bieber, saved her and her siblings from their abusive parents. The children’s resilience helped them survive a nightmare, and Jordan’s bravery and dedication to her siblings freed them of it. Jordan shows us that it is possible to overcome even the most monstrous of obstacles when you step up and speak up. When faced with extreme adversity, you must employ the traits we all have but some rarely access: strength and determination. Mother Of Six Wakes Up To Strange Noises - Does The Most Selfless Thing To Save Their Lives

Emma Schols, mother of six, defied all odds when she saved all her children during a life-changing event when her house caught on fire. She braved through the flames and miraculously survived with a body that was 93 percent burnt during the ordeal. A scary ordealIn the middle of the night in September 2019, Schols awoke to strange noises. On her own since the father of her children was not home, Emma quickly saw that there was a fire burning downstairs in her home, and heard that two of her youngest sons had gone down to investigate and were cowering in the playroom to stay safe. In only her underwear, Emma sprung into action.I threw myself like a shield over the boys so that they would not be injured. When the flames hit me, it was as if my whole back was on fire. But I kept going. I threw the boys out the front door and locked them so they wouldn't come in again. They were terrified.Emma ScholsHeroic planEmma grabbed her two youngest sons and ushered them out the front door, then immediately turned back into the house and locked the door behind her. She knew that if she left the door unlocked, the boys would be too afraid and try to get back into the burning house. Once they were safe and sound outside, she ran upstairs, through the flames, to get her other children, burning the soles of her feet as she went. Then there was fire in the whole staircase. For each step I thought that ‘this is not possible’ but then I thought that it must go for four of my children who are still up there. It was so hot that the soles of the feet start to drop from the feet. They just hang like threads.Emma ScholsOnce upstairs, Emma found that her daughter, Nellie, aged 9, had jumped from an upstairs balcony to go get help. Eldest son William, 11, was lowering a ladder so the other children could get out. That was when Emma noticed that her baby, Mollie, was not with the rest of the children. She knew immediately that she had to go get her.The final fightFearing that baby Mollie would no longer be alive, Emma fought the flames and made it to her room. She found the baby frightened and crying, and used all of the strength left in her burning body to get her to safety. It was such thick smoke and so hard to breathe. I was so terribly tired but could see through the smoke how Mollie stood there in her crib and cried and was terrified. Then I suddenly got such an enormous force and managed to get to my feet and lift her up.Emma ScholsA miraculous recovery Emma, and all six of her children, survived against all odds. Staff at the Swedish hospital where Emma went to recover let the family see their mother after 6 long weeks of recovery. Some of the children were frightened of their mother, who was unrecognizable after so much of her body was burned. Slowly, things got better and Emma was able to play with her children again, revisit her passion for horseback riding, and, above all, become the carpool mom again. This story is inspiring beyond measure. The things we are able to do for our children are miraculous. Quick-Thinking Girl Trusts Her Gut And Uses Slime To Escape Dangerous Predator

It seems TV shows with guns and crime aren't always bad for kids. Case in point: an 11-year-old girl who helped police catch her alleged abductor using a trick she'd learned from Law & Order SVU.A shocking abduction attemptWhile an 11-year-old girl in Florida was waiting for the bus, she was mixing blue paint with homemade slime, as kids do. Then all of a sudden, a white SUV pulled up and a man sprinted towards her in a shocking attempt to kidnap the girl, who was identified as Alyssa.Alyssa tried to run away, but the man, who was holding a knife, caught up to her and started dragging her to the car — but she resisted. Alyssa tossed some of the slime on his arm, so he ran back to the car and drove away.Alyssa said she knew to mark the guy with the slime and defend herself by watching Law & Order: SVU with her mom."I knew that that might be better evidence if the cops do find him," she told Today. She did the right thingFootage of the attack was captured on a police security camera and the alleged abductor, Jared Paul Stanga, 30, was charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under 13 and aggravated assault and battery."The victim at the time of the attempted abduction was playing with blue slime," Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said at a news conference. "The suspect, when we caught him, had blue slime all over his own arms.""I'm not so sure if she actually comprehends what could have happened. She fought like a trooper."Sheriff Chip SimmonsProps from the actor who plays Olivia BensonWhen the actor who plays Olivia Benson on SVU, Mariska Hargitay, got word of the girl's defiance — and the influence of the show — she posted on Instagram."Alyssa, first and most important, I am so relieved and grateful to know that you are safe. And I am so honored to be part of your incredible story," Gargitay wrote. "You are one BRAVE, Strong and Smart young woman. I think the SVU squad might have to add slime to their crimefighting gear! Take good care of yourself and each other. With all my love, your number one fan, Mariska."As for the girl, she's seeing a counsellor but her mom says she's her normal, resourceful self."I just feel proud of myself," Alyssa told Today.Preparing our kids for the worst isn't easyNo parent wants to see something happen to their child like what happened to Alyssa. As parents, we can try and train them to be safe as best as possible, but we'll never know what they pick up and if they'll do the right thing when the time comes. Thankfully, this girl managed to keep herself safe, and it wasn't thanks to a tip from her parents or teacher, but a TV show. Maybe crime shows are good for kids to watch after all? Err, I think we'll need some more evidence before making that conclusion.More uplifting news:Mom Traveling Alone With Kids Nearly Has Breakdown – Strangers Save The DayPoor Man Who Missed Job Interview To Save A Life Had Employers Lining Up To Hire HimLifeguard Fired For Saving A Life Gets Incredible Reward After Public OutrageBrooklyn Landlord Cancels Rent For Hundreds Of Tenants, Setting An Unprecedented Example For Others

Courageous Teacher Disarms Sixth-Grade School Shooter With A Hug

America has had nearly 200 mass shootings in 2021 so far, including one on May 6 at a school in Idaho that had a powerful conclusion thanks to a courageous and compassionate teacher. There was shooting in the hallway Krista Gneiting was preparing her students at Rigby middle school for their final exams when she heard gun shots. When the math teacher looked outside her classroom, she saw the custodian lying on the floor. Then, she heard two more shots and closed the classroom door.“I just told my students, ‘We are going to leave, we’re going to run to the high school, you’re going to run hard, you’re not going to look back and now is the time to get up and go,’” Gneiting told Good Morning America.De-escalation using compassionAfter ushering her students to safety, Gneiting went to help one of the injured students. Then, she saw the shooter — a sixth-grade girl.“It was a little girl, and my brain couldn’t quite grasp that,” Gneiting said. “I just knew when I saw that gun, I had to get the gun.”Police said the student brought the handgun to school in her backpack and shot two people inside the building and one outside — all were injured but released from hospital within a few days. "Are you the shooter?" Gneiting asked, as she carefully approached the girl. Then, she touched the girl's arm and slowly moved it down before grabbing the weapon.“I just slowly pulled the gun out of her hand, and she allowed me to. She didn’t give it to me, but she didn’t fight,” Gneiting said. “And then after I got the gun, I just pulled her into a hug because I thought, this little girl has a mom somewhere that doesn’t realize she’s having a breakdown and she’s hurting people.”The young girl needed helpGneiting held the girl as she waited for police to arrive.“After a while, the girl started talking to me, and I could tell she was very unhappy,” Gneiting said. “I just kept hugging her and loving her and trying to let her know that we’re going to get through this together. I do believe that my being there helped her because she calmed down.”Gneiting then informed the girl that the officer would need to put her in handcuffs, and she didn't resist.“She didn’t respond, she just let him. He was very gentle and very kind, and he just went ahead and took her and put her in the police car,” Gneiting said. The student — who has not been named due to Idaho law — has been charged for the shooting.“She is just barely starting in life and she just needs some help. Everybody makes mistakes,” Gneiting told ABC News. “I think we need to make sure we get her help and get her back into where she loves herself so that she can function in society.”Krista GneitingFighting fire with love (not fire)It's easy to use violence against violence, that's the norm and that's exactly how law enforcement works in America. But it is far more difficult to use compassion and love to de-escalate a violent situation as this extremely brave teacher did.It really makes you wonder: what else in our lives and in our society could we de-escalate with compassion instead of violence?More uplifting stories:Neighbors Stay Up All Night To Protect Asian Family From Recurring Racist AttacksBoy, 7, Saves 20-Year-Old Sister From Drowning With An Instinctive Yet Critical MoveRealtor Turns Homeless Man’s Life Around After He Returns Lost $10,000 Check8-Year-Old Boy Rescues Sister From Moving Car Driven By Volatile Kidnapper

Man Sprints In Front Of Oncoming Train To Save Child Seconds Before It's Too Late

Every parent's worst nightmare nearly occurred in a railway station in Mumbai, India, when a child fell onto the tracks as a train approached. Seconds before the train reached the station, a man sprinted down the tracks — saving the child before it was too late.Seconds from disasterSecurity footage from India's Ministry of Railways shows a heart-gripping scene. In it, a child is holding hands with an unknown adult before veering towards the train tracks. Shockingly, the child falls in and struggles to get back onto the platform.Painful seconds tick by as the adult that was holding the child's hand reaches out to them — but doesn't get close enough to help the child up. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a man sprints along the tracks as the train comes closer and closer. The man quickly tosses the child back onto the platform and hauls himself up just seconds before the train reaches the station. Both of them were unharmed. The Ministry of Railways shared the footage in a tweet, which now has more than 20,000 likes.A real-life heroIn a press release, the ministry thanked the hero — pointsman Mayur Shelke — for his selflessness:"Shri Mayur Shelke, pointsman posted at Vangani Station, Mumbai Division, Central Railway, has displayed exceptional courage in saving a precious life by rescuing a child who had accidentally slipped and fallen on the tracks from the platform."The ministry added that Shelke saved the child "in absolute disregard for his own life," and awarded him 50,000 rupees ($675) for his act of "courage, bravery, and presence of mind."The ministry also shared a video that shows Shelke receiving a standing ovation and being photographed by the media. He risked his life for a complete strangerWhat Shelke did took an unfathomable level of bravery. Not only did he risk his life, but he did so for a complete stranger. If a stranger was able to take that level of risk for another person, what small level of bravery can we show others in our own lives when the opportunity arises?More uplifting stories:4 Years Ago, He Was Homeless–Today, He Bought His First HousePoor Man Who Missed Job Interview To Save A Life Had Employers Lining Up To Hire HimDomestic Abuse Survivor Marries The First Responder Who Saved Her LifeBrooklyn Landlord Cancels Rent For Hundreds Of Tenants, Setting An Unprecedented Example For Others
