Sweet Revenge: Shakira Fights Back After Piqué Cheating Scandal (VIDEO)

Columbia pop megastar Shakira went from shaking her hips to shaking up the world when news broke that her 11-year relationship with Spanish soccer star, Gerard Piqué, had ended. The couple announced the split in June 2022 in a joint statement asking for privacy for the sake of their two sons, Sasha and Milan. However, privacy was the last thing they received. Amid a flurry of tabloid headlines, accusations of Piqué's alleged infidelities flew, and one of the biggest cheating scandals of the decade erupted. The Cheating Scandal That Rocked The WorldThe two first met 12 years ago when the footballer featured in the music video for Shakira’s song “Waka Waka,” the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. They quickly fell in love with Shakira boldly declaring that he was the "one" and Piqué echoing the statement, calling her "the love of my life." And for years, this seemed to be true. They built a life together, had two children, and weathered a frightening health scare before it all came crumbling down.

According to reports, Shakira discovered that her longtime partner was cheating on her in an unconventional way — via a jar of disappearing jam. After getting home from the tour, she discovered that someone had been eating her jam, and since neither Piqué nor her kids liked jam, all evidence pointed to someone else.

RELATED: The Experience That Made Shakira Want To Succeed

It was devastating. “I just feel like this is all a bad dream and that I’m going to wake up at some point,” she said. But it wasn't a dream. It was a living nightmare. One that she would be forced to live out in the glaring harsh light of the public eye.

As photos of Piqué with his new 23-year-old girlfriend made the rounds on social media and in the press it seemed that the cheating allegations were true.

Sweet Sweet Revenge

Shakira may have been heartbroken but she wasn't about to take the breakup lying down. She turned to the power of music and in doing so, empowered herself.

Working on her first album in nearly 6 years has helped her pick up the pieces and put herself back together again. In a vulnerably candid interview with Elle, Shakira shared: "In this moment of my life, which is probably one of the most difficult, darkest hours of my life, music has brought light."

It also brought a record-breaking smash hit blasting her cheating ex. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

The juicy diss track, entitled "BZRP Music Session #53," dropped on January 11 and immediately went viral, racking up an impressive 63 million YouTube views in just 24 hours, becoming the most-watched Latin debut song in the platform's history.

It also made Spotify history as the most-streamed Latin track in a single day.

And its popularity just keeps increasing. As of today, it's been viewed a whopping 324M times. But is it any wonder? With lyrics like “I’m worth two 22-year-olds," and "You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo / You traded in a Rolex for a Casio,” it's blatantly obvious who it's targeting and it is glorious in its scathing revenge.

But more than that, it also just so happens to be the inspiring anthem anyone who has ever experienced a breakup needs to hear.

Because Shakira's overarching message is clear: there may have been a breakup but it didn't break her. And in case there was any doubt, let her put it to rest as she sings, "You thought you’d hurt me, but you made me stronger / Women no longer cry, women get paid.”

And she's taking it straight to the bank.

Shakira Sacrificed Herself For Love

For years, Shakira put herself and her career on the "back burner," putting the needs of Piqué and her family first.

Shakira said, "I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family."

And when she said everything, that's exactly what she meant.

She continued, "As a soccer player, he wanted to play football and to win titles and I had to support him. I mean, one of the two of us had to make a sacrifice, right? Either he would stop his contract with Barcelona and move to the U.S. with me, where my career is, or I would have to do that instead."

So, she sacrificed herself for love. And she did it, willingly. Because she loved him and their children and believed that Piqué was as invested in her as she was in him. She broke herself into pieces so that he could be whole, and she paid the price.

"For those women like me who believe in values like family who had the dream, the big dream of having a family forever, to see that dream broken or shredded into pieces is probably one of the most painful things that you can ever go through," she said.

But she's not sacrificing who she is anymore.

"A woman can be enough. I can be enough at this point for myself and for my family, for my kids,” she said.

Shakira is living proof that there is life on the other side of heartache and betrayal. And she's just getting started.
