They Were Sent to the Principals Office for Kissing on the School Bus - 77 Years Later, a Phone Call Changes Everything

Bill Hassinger and Joanne Blakkan met on the school bus 77 years ago. It was 1947 and they were both students at North Muskegon High School in West Michigan. Joanne was a junior and Bill was a freshman. They became high school sweethearts, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Not then anyway. Fast forward seven decades and the two have found their way back. To each other. High School RomanceBill and Joanne started off as friends. Every day, she would save him a seat on the bus. Despite their two-year age difference, they started dating and fell in love."[We] became more and more attracted to each other and then the next year was serious. In those days, you called it 'going steady,"' Joanne told Fox News. They were smitten. "One time we got called to the principal's office for kissing on the school bus."Joanne BlakkanJoanne graduated in 1949. She went off to college at Michigan State and Bill stayed behind, still in high school. She visited sometimes on weekends. But time and distance can be a cruel mistress and the couple drifted apart. They both found new loves, married, and each had three children. They Lived a Lifetime ApartBill married a classmate at 19, just six months before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He spent the next two years in Salzburg, Austria before returning home to enjoy a 32-year career with the Michigan State Police. He was married to his wife for 68 years — until her death in 2021.Meanwhile, Joanne was busy with her own career and family. After her husband died of a heart attack in 1989 at the age of 57, she was content to be on her own. For 73 years, Bill and Joanne never set eyes on each other. “We went our separate ways,” Joanne, now 92, said. “I had lived alone all this time and I certainly wasn’t looking for love or a man. I was content. But he was always in the back of my mind. I loved that young boy.”And then in 2022, fate stepped in. Part of the planning committee for her 73rd high school reunion, Joanne was searching for her former classmates online when she thought of Bill. Curious, she decided to look him up. With the help of her daughter, Linda, she found him living 80 miles away. Seven Decades Later, They're ReunitedJoanne wrote him a letter. Within moments of receiving it, Bill was on the phone. Not long after they met for lunch. It was as if time had faded away. Within hours, the flame of first love was rekindled. It didn't matter that neither one was looking for love, love found them anyway. “We just went back to the same feelings for each other,” Bill said. “We're just as much and more in love today than when we were teenagers.”Now, the two spend as much time as their 80-mile commute allows, walking, talking, and playing cards. “We are having a ball,” Joanne said. And their families couldn't be more excited for them. “Neither one of them were looking for this,” Linda said. “My father died and she never dated after that. I don't think she would've dated anyone besides Bill. Both sides of the family are thrilled.”And in a sweet homage to teenage love, Joanne is once again wearing the green gem bracelet Bill gave her as a birthday gift, so many years ago. The couple are still trying to figure out what the future looks like as far as living arrangements. What they do know, is that they want to spend the time they have left together. Life’s Not Over Because You’re AgingIf there's anything we can take away from this nonagenarian romance, it's that we're never too old for love. And true love? Will always find a way, even if it takes 70 years. As for anyone questioning whether or not they should get into a relationship later in life? Bill and Joanne have one piece of advice. Don't wait."If you feel the love for each other, then just spend time together because life is short, and we realize that now, at our age, we don't know how much time we have together, but we're just making the most of every day," Joanne said. "Just go for it."More from Goalcast:Woman Goes With High School Sweetheart on a Date – Finds Out He’d Been Working on a Secret for MonthsHigh School Sweethearts Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary – Little Did They Know, They Would Be In “Tears” After Their DateHigh School Sweethearts Break Up After Graduation – 63 Years Later, One Phone Call Leads to Their Marriage

Interracial Couple Defies Racism and Weds 46 Years Ago - Today, Theyre Still Not Letting Anything Stop Them

Jeri and Mike Wirtz are used to defying the odds.An interracial couple in the 1970s, prejudice and racism were far from a thing of the past despite the ground-breaking legalization of mixed marriages in 1967. It was truly them against the world. And now? It's them against cancer. And if love's got anything to do with it, cancer doesn't stand a chance. Interracial Couple Doesn’t Let Anything Stand in the Way of LoveThe year was 1976 when Jeri and Mike first laid eyes on each other by the pool at their apartment complex. Both in their mid-20s, Jeri was working as a model and fashion designer and Mike was with AT&T. It took Mike a week to summon up the courage to ask her out on a date, but then they fell hard and fast. "We knew that prejudice and interracial...you know, people were against it a lot. But that was something we were not going to let stop us," Jeri told Good Morning America.A year later, the couple wed at a small wedding chapel in Artesia, Cerritos in Southern California. Three years later they welcomed their daughter, Nicole and in 1985, their son Ryan was born. Now, 3 grandchildren and 46 years later, Mike and Jeri say a lot has changed in the world regarding acceptance and integration. "I just look around and I'm just amazed because it's totally, totally integrated with every race you could imagine," Mike said about his grandchildren's school in an interview with Good Morning America. And while the world may have changed over the years, one thing has remained steadfastly the same — they're still each other's "ONE." Even though it hasn't always been easy, nearly five decades later, they're still going strong. "We maintained our marriage because we both took our vows seriously and made a commitment to each other."Mike Wirtz via Newsweek"It's important to respect one another and not to try and change your partner, because at the end of the day, you fell in love with who they are. That's what makes them so special and unique."Becoming Instagram and TikTok FamousAt the age of 72, the couple decided to become content creators after their son posted a quick 10-second "teenage dirtbag" photo montage of his parents on TikTok. The video went viral with nearly 2 million people instantly falling in love with the duo.In just a few months, their social media has taken off. And one quick look at their reels and it's so easy to see why. Because true love? The kind that stirs the soul and is the stuff of Hollywood movies? Isn't dead.Thirty-eight million people have fallen in love with their love story. But it's not just their enviable love that has everyone in their feelings or the fact that they are living proof that even in the face of racism and discrimination, love always wins. It's also their infectious positivity, joy, and hope, even while battling cancer. Love Always WinsIn 2017, Jeri was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer. Three years later, Mike also heard the dreaded words, "It's prostate cancer."After undergoing treatment, Mike is now cancer-free. And even though there is no cure for Jeri, she's choosing to live her life to the fullest. "I have fought through chemo and radiation and I refuse to give up," she wrote on one of her Instagram reels. She believes that anything is possible. And when you watch her unbridled joy and zest for life she makes you believe that anything is possible too. Jeri and Mike hope that by sharing their story, the good and the bad, they can inspire others struggling with their own life challenges. "I think so many people resonated with our story because we are real people, just living our lives despite whatever obstacles life throws our way. I hope we can inspire people to never give up and keep going," Mike said.So What Is Their Secret to Long and Lasting Love?As for how they’ve made it work all these years, they both say trust and respect have a lot to do with it. (Also, the fact that they both literally never seem to age doesn't hurt, probably)."First and foremost, you need to be friends who genuinely like each other. You can't mold each other into something you're not," Jeri advises."It's about accepting your partner for who they are, quirks and all, while they do the same for you," she continues. "And at the core of it all, it's about cultivating love, mutual respect, and unwavering trust in each other."Clearly, they've figured it out because it's definitely working for them. Jeri and Mike met at a time when interracial relationships were still being viewed through a lens of prejudice and discrimination. Despite societal pressures and negative attitudes, they chose each other. And regardless of what life throws at them, they're still choosing each other. As much as things change, so many things remain the same. As we continue to witness profound global divisions, their story of the power of love, strength, and resilience is more important than ever. Woman Goes Through Her Camera Roll - Cant Believe Her Eyes When She Sees This in the Background of a Photo

Instagram went wild when wellness influencer, Jenn Chia (@soimjenn) posted a startling video that reveals her current husband lurking in the background of a selfie she snapped. Which wouldn't be a red flag at all — if it weren't for the fact that they weren't together at the time.In fact, they wouldn't even meet for another 2 years. The "coincidence" had fans going off with all kinds of crazy theories...but Chia had her own.She Was Going through Her Camera Roll and Couldn’t Believe Her EyesJenn Chia, 31, revealed the plot twist of a lifetime, when she created a mashup video made up of several images, taken over 10 years. Needless to say, the video tells a pretty crazy story — and it's making us question everything we know when it comes to fate."I'm still shaking looking at this." Jenn Chia, InstagramOn Oct. 10th, 2012, Chia's friend snapped a pic of her posing at what appears to be a crowded food court. Chia's head is titled while she smiles wide for the camera. She's blissfully unaware of how this seemingly simple moment she captured on camera, would blow her mind over a decade later. In her Instagram video, Chia zooms in on a stranger hovering over her shoulder. The man has a two-strapped backpack on his shoulders and seems to be looking off in the distance. But even in profile, this then-stranger is unmistakable. His name is Jon Liddell — and he's Jenn Chia's future husband.Watch Jenn Chia's Video: After the photo of Chia snapped in October of 2012, Chia's video cuts to a photo taken of the couple, two years later in 2014.The lovebirds are cozied up on a ferris wheel and Liddell poses with a stuffed animal he presumably won for Chia at a carnival. By the looks of it, it's a pretty swoon-worthy date! But Chia saves the best for last. She shares an intimate black and white photograph, taken on their wedding day. She captioned the pic simply, "Married 9 years later."Jenn Chia, InstagramIt should go without saying, with an incredible twist of fate like theirs, that the comment section blew up with all kinds of responses! Fans Were Calling It “The Invisible String Theory”Chia's post racked up over 45,000 shares and hundreds of comments!People from all over the world were putting in their two cents — and it's priceless. Everything from the heartfelt to the hilarious.Jenn Chia, Instagram [comments]But perhaps the favorite theory was "The Invisible String Theory."If you don't know what the invisible string theory is — don't worry. It may sound complicated but it's a pretty simple concept. What’s the Invisible String Theory? In East Asia, there exists a Chinese folklore legend known as The Red Thread of Fate. According to this myth, two individuals destined to be soulmates are said to be connected by an unseen red cord. This cord ensures that, despite the challenges of time, distance, or obstacles, they will inevitably reunite with each other.Sounds crazy? It may just be — but when you hear a story like Chia and Liddells' it's hard not think that maybe there's something to it?Even though The Invisible String Theory is an ancient legend, it was recently re-popularized on TikTok and we have none other than Taylor Swift to thank for that! They Gave Taylor Swift a Little Shout OutThe massive pop star is known to leave all kinds of obscure "easter eggs" for her fans — and her album Folklore is no exception. In her song Invisible String, Swift sings about how timing is everything and how we're all connected — and it set off an awesome TikTok trend.TikTokers were inspired by this song to share their own love stories — before they even knew their love stories!Including Jenn Chia are her husband, Jon Liddell. After their video went viral, they did a sweet musical tribute to how we're all connected. The song they chose to sing was — you guessed it — T-Swizzle's Invisible String. “The Right Person Will Find You at the Right Time”Perhaps the best part of their rollercoaster love story is how the married couple were able to reflect on how the timing is always right, even if we don't know it yet.Instead of wishing she'd have turned around all those years ago and spare herself two years of dating heartache — Jenn Chia sees it differently."We met at the right time. If it was before, I don’t think the relationship would have lasted. I was a narcissistic monster, unaware and naive. Took me a year of travelling and being single to reflect and realize my own mistakes. That’s when we met."Jenn Chia, InstagramHer husband, Liddell doubled down on the same sentiment.Jenn Chia, Instagram [comments]When it comes to love, we can rush around trying to meet our soulmate or even worse — think they may not even be out there at all.But if Jenn Chia's love story reminds of us anything, it's an anecdote for the famous words: "What is meant to be yours, will always find its way to you."More from Goalcast:

Woman Is Diagnosed With Dementia - So Her Husband of 55 Years Makes a Vow

Just in case you think true love is dead, think again. In a real-life story straight out of The Notebook, one husband is making sure that his wife (who suffers from dementia) is living her best life. Each and every day. And if this doesn't make the most skeptical among us believe in the power of love, nothing will. All in the Name of LoveIt's been 55 years since Jim and Maureen of Sydney, Australia said "I Do." Their love story began on Queenscliff Beach, the site of their first date decades ago. It's a beach they still frequent multiple times a week.“Our first date was to go to Queenscliff Beach, that’s the first time I held Maureen’s hand,” Jim told the Manly Observer. "And every day when I come to the beach, we walk down to Queenscliff and I remind her that this is where we first held hands." "But she doesn’t understand,” he added, tears in his eyes.Sadly, four years ago, Maureen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. In 2021, during a stint in the hospital, doctors told Jim that his wife had very little time left. Despite the fact that Maureen no longer remembered much of their life together, Jim decided then and there to make it his mission to make every day they had left count. He's held onto that promise. For three years...and counting. Husband’s Sweet Gesture for Wife With Dementia“My philosophy is each day, I want to give Maureen the best day she can have. That statement stems from when she came out of the hospital, and each day could have been her last," Jim said.Part of that includes taking Maureen for a lunch date and a stroll along their favorite beach at least three days a week. It was during their walks that Jim noticed something heartbreaking. Maureen would attempt to engage passersby, often reaching out to try to touch their hands. Almost always, she was ignored. Jim knew, after speaking to a friend whose father had dementia, that this kind of physical connection was a way for Maureen to communicate with folks around her. “He was telling me that, right at the end, the last days with his dad, they [communicate] by signals of squeezing hands and so on, so taking in a whole lot more than they realised,” Jim explained.Jim wanted to prove to his wife that while she may not remember who she is, she isn't forgotten. He enlisted the help of a local design and print studio, CRE8withJAZ.He had a t-shirt custom-made with the words, "My beautiful wife has dementia. Please say "Hello" to her," emblazoned across it.It worked.Spreading a Message About People With DementiaOnce Jim started wearing the shirt on their dates, people began to take notice of Maureen. In fact, the results were overwhelming.“What surprised me initially was that so many people were foreign tourists from all over the world," he said. And just by taking a moment or two to acknowledge the couple has made a real impact in their lives. “I’d really like to thank all the people that have stopped by and had a chat to Maureen, they really brighten her day, which brightens mine."Jim hopes sharing his story will spread an important message about people with Alzheimer's and dementia."[They] are living people and should be treated that way."He added that being a caregiver has given him a whole new perspective on the importance of seeing and validating the people around us. “I’m no expert, but as I walk along Manly Beach, I’ve been doing it for four years, I noticed a lot of people with some sort of handicap or were walking with a carer that looked lonely. I’ll go up to them and say hello, to have a chat to them and I think more people should do that and just notice the people around them.”The Love of a LifetimeIt's obvious that when Jim vowed to love, honor, and cherish Maureen through sickness and in health five decades ago, he meant it. As difficult and heartbreaking as it is to watch the person we've spent a lifetime loving slowly slip away, it is heartening to know that love still finds its way. And their grandson, Noah, confirms it. In a comment on social media, he wrote:"That’s my beautiful grandparents! I have never seen someone Iove another person as much as these two love each other and I hope I can take care of someone the way my Poppy does one day."It's stories like these that fuel the hopeless romantic in us. But they also remind us of just how precious love is.The reality is that none of us know how much time we have with the ones we love. And while we may not be able to control time or what life throws at us, we can do our best to make the most of every single minute. I will disagree, emphatically, and get her a cup of coffee. She will sit on the couch with her legs crossed under her and try to drink it while happily playing with the toddler that's crawling all over her.She will occasionally stare off blankly as we talk; silently steeling herself for the coming shift. Lawyer Invites His Girlfriend to Court for an Important Trial - But the Jurors Shock Her

When you’ve found your perfect match, there are certain things that just feel right. Although you don’t have to have everything in common, odds are the two of you have probably bonded over certain things that speak to your personalities. For Brandon Dinetz and Jen Lettman, two attorneys in Florida, the law is what brought them together. Little did they know just how much it would factor into their happily ever after, though. A Special Case For these two, what started as a working relationship easily transformed into something more. Before this couple knew it, they were bonding and connecting over their work. They’d often help each other, especially when it came to crafting their opening statements. So one day, when Dinetz asked Lettman to come to court and critique his arguments, she didn’t think twice. She had no idea that he was about to put a plan five months in the making into action. When she entered the courtroom, she thought she was going to hear statements for a DUI case. There was a real judge, a defense attorney, and a few other people there to make it feel like an actual case. Then the judge said to bring in the jury. A Gigantic Surprise As the jury filed in, Lettman grew confused. She recognized Dinetz’s father, then her own sister. She began tearing up when she realized there were 17 of her and her boyfriend’s loved ones in the box, grinning at her. “I heard noises behind me of her starting to freak out,” Dinetz recalled to The Guardian. “She started to cry; it was a laugh-cry, and then it was all crying. Then she saw all of her friends and colleagues and she knew exactly what was happening at that point. Her reaction was priceless.” Of course, instead of delivering an opening statement, Dinetz was proposing. In a video, he popped the question, to which Lettman immediately said yes. The judge then “sentenced” them to life as everyone cheered. “The courtroom idea was the first thing I thought of doing [for a proposal],” Dinetz added. “It’s not weird for me to say: ‘Hey, come watch part of my trial and check out what I’m doing in court.’ The fact that we both met in this job and we both are attorneys, I thought there was some symbolism behind that. It was more meaningful that we could incorporate our careers into it.” A Viral Reaction If a proposal should be personalized, thoughtful, and meaningful, this one is as perfect as it comes. Not only did planning take five months, but Dinetz ordered a special ring, coordinated a ton of friends and family, and asked a real judge and a real criminal defense attorney to come out to sell it. So naturally the video capturing the special moment went viral. “The next thing I know is we’re getting texts from friends and family that all of these different sites had it and we were like: ‘Well, this is pretty cool,’” Dinetz continued. Still, he didn’t take the video to gain online stardom. He did it because he wanted to marry the love of his life and show her how much she meant to him. “It’s cool that it’s getting attention, but to me, the proposal itself is what’s most important… I am going to be married to Jen. That’s really what matters to me.” The Power of Love If this story shows us one thing it’s that love is powerful. Not only did love inspire this man to get creative with an amazing proposal, but the video was shared far and wide, inspiring others in the process. It also reminds us that everyone’s love story is unique, and just because it might not look like it does in the movies or on TV doesn’t mean that it’s any less special. True love is finding someone who understands and appreciates the quirks that make you who you are. Not only will they embrace them, but they may one day plan a proposal around them. That proposal doesn't have to be grand or expensive or huge, either. If it's something that's special between you and your loved one, then that makes it the most special of all. Farmer's Tribute for His Late Wife Goes Unnoticed - Until a Stranger Stumbles Upon It by Chance

In the vast meadows of England, where love often whispers through the winds, Winston Howes crafted a tribute so touching and hidden that it took a serendipitous hot air balloon flight to reveal its beauty. One Loving Husband’s Heartwarming Tribute Love, a force that propels us to do the extraordinary, has fueled the hearts of lovers throughout history — Paris and Helen, Romeo and Juliet, and the enduring love stories of our grandparents. Winston Howes and his wife, Janet, were no exception. They met, fell in love at first sight, and in 1962, sealed their devotion in marriage. Their life together was a tapestry woven with threads of love and shared dreams. They moved to a picturesque farmhouse, raised a family, and nurtured a flourishing business. But life, as it often does, dealt a cruel hand. After three decades of love, Janet succumbed to a heart failure at the tender age of 50, leaving Winston and their son bereft. Grieving, Winston sought solace, attempting various methods to heal his wounded heart. Yet, none proved effective until he conceived a poignant idea — a tribute to his beloved Janet, akin to the legendary Hanging Garden of Babylon. How One Man Is Keeping His Wife’s Memory Alive Transforming a meadow Janet cherished, Winston created a hidden sanctuary — a heart-shaped forest. In the quiet expanse of their home, a profound symbol of love took root, a place where he and his son could find solace, especially in the face of life's hardships. This testament of love, Winston's clandestine creation, remained a secret until the heavens intervened. A hot air balloon, piloted by Andy, a frequent flyer, chanced upon this heart-shaped haven during one of its journeys. Andy, astounded by the unexpected sight, exclaimed, "It was a perfect heart hidden away from view — you wouldn’t know it was there!" The breath-stealing view, a heart etched into the landscape, tells a story of love, loss, and an enduring connection. Although it can't resurrect Janet, Winston's heartwarming tribute keeps the flame of their memories alive, a testament to the timeless power of love. Photographer Films Elderly Man on the Beach - Her Video Is Going Viral for This Sweet Reason

When it comes to love we all dream of finding THE ONE — the one we'll grow old with. The one we'll laugh with, cry with, live with, and share our dreams and our fears with. We want the kind of romantic love that is the stuff of great Hollywood movies, like Allie and Noah in The Notebook and Carl and Ellie in Up. But as we go through life and experience heartbreak, it can be easy to become cynical. To question if that kind of love truly exists. But as it turns out, it does. TRUE LOVE ISN'T DEAD! And one photographer took the video to prove it. The Viral Video That Has People Around the World Swooning Photographer, Hannah Greenwood, was enjoying an afternoon at Znjan Beach in Split, Croatia, when an elderly man on the beach caught her eye. Intrigued by him, she started recording. "I just started filming a sweet old man carrying something and I had no idea where he was going…" Hannah wrote in a caption on her now-viral TikTok. She captured the elderly gentleman, dressed in a dark jacket, khakis, and a baseball cap, gingerly walking across the sand, cradling something in his weathered hands. He crosses the street to a woman (presumably his wife) sitting on a bench, a walking brace perched beside her.
