Sheryl Sandberg Launches Free Online Course On Mental Resilience

No stranger to deep loss, nor to roles of leadership, business powerhouse Sheryl Sandberg has launched a free online master class on mental resilience.

The initiative follows Sandberg’s 2017 book, Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy. Co-authored with close friend and Wharton professor Adam Grant, the #1 New York Times bestseller is the result of Sandberg’s efforts to turn the pain of her husband’s sudden death into something meaningful.

Following the success of the book, Sandberg and Grant have now launched the resilience master class as a free online course in partnership with LinkedIn. Though it may seem strange at first, the pair believe mental resilience is a skill that can be taught, nurtured and developed.

Consisting of nine short videos, the crash course in resilience approaches subjects like the importance of gratitude, self-compassion or how to talk to people who have experienced loss.

You are not born with a fixed amount of resilience. Like a muscle, you can build it up, draw on it when you need it. In that process you will figure out who you really are — and you just might become the very best version of yourself.

– Sheryl Sandberg

One of the most recognizable female leaders on the global stage, Sheryl Sandberg suddenly found herself raising two children alone after the sudden death of her husband during a vacation in 2015. Gripped by deep loss, Sandberg found the way to bring joy back into her life through the power of gratitude.

The LinkedIn masterclass is further expanded by OptionB.org, a place where people who are struggling can find advice, lessons and personal stories on how to deal with adversity in life. Those looking to help others in a difficult situation can find resources to do so.

Visitors can also register and share personal stories and connect with other members, building safe spaces and supporting communities for times of need.

Build resilience in yourselves. When tragedy or disappointment strike, know that you have the ability to get through absolutely anything. I promise you do. As the saying goes, we are more vulnerable than we ever thought, but we are stronger than we ever imagined. – Sheryl Sandberg
