89-Year-Old Delivers Pizza 30 Hours A Week To Pay Bills - Breaks Down When Handed Unusual Tip

One octagenarian was taken by surprise when he received an incredible gift from complete strangers around the world.

When Carlos Valdez and his family want pizza, they order from Papa John's and always ask for 89-year-old driver Derlin Newey.

The Utah-based driver does his job with care, and always delivers his marquee phrase: “Hello, are you looking for some pizza?”

The best delivery guy

Valdez enjoys Newey's service so much that when he delivers pizza he takes a video and posts it to his 53,000 followers on TikTok (his page now has more than 158,000 followers).

“It’s insane. Everybody loves him,” Valdez told KSL TV.

Somebody at that age should not be working that much.

Love from TikTok

The Valdez family got a brilliant idea. They decided to ask TikTok for donations to the dedicated driver, who works 30 hours per week to pay his bills.

They thought they might get a few bucks, but the donations came pouring in.

“Collectively as a TikTok community, we all came together, and we were able to raise $12,000 for this amazing person,” said Valdez.

It made him cry

KSL TV followed the Valdez family as they surprised Dewey with a cheque.

“We collectively collected a gift for you, and I’m here to deliver that gift to you on behalf of the TikTok community,” said Valdez.

Dewey had no idea what Tiktok is- he thought it was "an online group you communicate with through the telephone"- but he did appreciate the money.

With tears in his eyes, he said, “How do I ever say thank you? I don’t know what to say."

“This couldn’t have gone any better,” said Valdez. “He needed this. I’m just glad we could help him. We just need to treat people with kindness and respect the way he does."

He stole our hearts.

Respect our elders

There are some people in society who do not treat elders well. Instead of reciprocating their efforts and sacrifices with love and respect, they are pushed to the side and left alone.

However, this heartwarming story aims to rectify just that. Sure, we can't give massive tips to every elderly person, but we can show them that we care—and that's most important thing.
