Waiter Admits His Family Lives in Another Country - So a Customer Leaves a Surprising Note and $750 on His Bill

A waiter was surprised to receive a $750 tip from kind customer so he can travel home with his new baby.

A waiter got an early Christmas gift when a customer tipped him $750 to take his new family home for the holidays.

Twenty-two-year-old Ben Millar was serving in a restaurant in Houston, Texas when he received the generous tip.

His girlfriend, Taryn Keith, was eight months pregnant, and the gift couldn’t have come at a better time for them.

The couple were hoping to visit Ireland once their son, Killian, was born. Keith had never met Millar's family and the couple wanted to finally take the trip with their son. Millar shared this with a customer who then decided to help him out.

Keith told Independent.ie that the pair had been chatting about U2.

"The customer informed Ben that he had just been in Ireland to see the band. Ben, jokingly said, 'Wow, I wish I could go back there for a weekend and visit my family,' thinking nothing of it."

When Millar went to collect the bill he discovered that the customer had left him a $750 tip (on a bill totalling $122.87), along with a note that read: “Hopefully, this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays.”

The customer, whose name is Jeffrey, left so fast that Millar never got the chance to thank him.

Keith said the baby is due January 20 and they would be heading to Ireland as soon as he is old enough to fly.

"I think it's a blessing and it couldn't have happened to a better guy than him. He works really hard. He's pretty stressed right now with money and the baby coming, so this just made his whole year. It's good to know that there are kind people in the world."

Keith shared a photo of the receipt on her Facebook page "to show everyone that there is not only hate out there."

As well as showing everyone the good in the world, it's also a reminder of how fast things can turn around when you least expect it -- sometimes from the kindness of a complete stranger.
