“This is a job for FedEx.”

FedEx is known for its promise of overnight delivery and catchy slogans like “Our most important package is yours” and “The world on time.”

But one employee took its “Relax, it’s FedEx” motto to a whole other level.

23-year FedEx veteran, Melvin J. Marlett recently went above and beyond to help a customer and it was all caught on tape.

Ring Doorbell Camera Catches FedEx Driver in the Act…of Kindness

It all started with a routine delivery. Melvin was delivering a package for kindergarten teacher, Jodi Brooks LaFreniere when she got an alert on her phone from her doorbell ring camera.

“I was wondering who was at my house since my fiance was away in Alaska, teaching,” she told CNN.

Jodi watched Melvin in action as he trudged through the Michigan snow, hauling the box containing her new kitchen sink up to the front door. However, before reaching the door he stopped and set the package down.

Looking around, he grabbed a nearby shovel and proceeded to clear her porch of snow.

Jodi was shocked.

“Although we see many acts of kindness in the Upper Peninsula, it was still surprising to see that he went the extra step,” Jodi said. “I shared it with my coworkers immediately because I couldn’t believe it. It made my day.”

Jodi doesn’t know Melvin but her fiance, Rodney Riesland, has spoken to him on previous deliveries. “He’s a great guy,” he said.

FedEx Responds to Driver’s Act of Kindness

Jodi posted the video on her Facebook page where it has since been deleted but not before racking up over 57K likes.

FedEx also shared it on its LinkedIn page.

“FedEx is proud of the many contributions our team members make to the communities we serve every day,” FedEx spokesperson Heather Wilson told CNN. “We commend our courier, Mel Marlett, who went above and beyond to help shovel snow for our customer while making a delivery.”

As for Melvin? It turns out this is just how he rolls.

“I would hope it’s something that anybody would have done,” he said humbly. “If you take care of your customers, they take care of you.”

FedEx Delivers More Than Just Packages

Melvin isn’t the only one in the business of giving back, the company he works for is too.

FedEx believes in “delivering good,” which is part of why it’s ranked as one of the most admired companies in the world, according to a survey published in Fortune magazine.

FedEx Cares is a global outreach community that does everything from delivering “hope to survivors of natural disasters” to saving the chimps. In 2019, it launched a campaign to positively impact 50 million people by its 50th birthday.

A goal the organization achieved early by working with more than 900 nonprofits and team members around the world.

Do Good and Good Comes Back to You

After the footage of Melvin shoveling went viral, the co-executive producer of NBC’s game show, ‘The Wall,’ reached out to him.

Melvin and his daughter Meredith appeared on the show as contestants and ended up winning $200,000.

Meredith shared about the experience, saying, “I wanted to give my dad something because the show was for him! I went on the show, I did all this stuff just so the world can see how awesome of a person he is.”

A FedEx driver proves that it doesn’t take much to make a positive impact on someone. Something as simple as shoveling a person’s porch really can make a difference.

While it may seem like a small gesture, it speaks volumes about the power of kindness and the impact that one person can have on the people around them.
