Pregnant Firefighter Rescues Lady After a Multi-Car Collision — And Then Her Water Broke

Baltimore off-duty firefighter steps in to save the day while being nine months pregnant.

Some people are just wired to help others, even in times of great distress. Recently, 30-year-old Megan Warfield, a Baltimore firefighter, was the passenger in a multi-car collision.

When the accident happened a few minutes away from her home, she first checked to make sure that she, her mother and her soon-to-be-born baby were all okay.

After confirming they were alright, she sprung into action to help clear the scene.

When the scanning the surrounding area, Megan came across a totalled car with someone stuck inside. Instinctively, she began to crawl in before realizing that she is nine months pregnant. Forced to help from the outside, she instructed a bystander to call 9-1-1 and reassured the woman in the car that help was on the way.

She then stayed with the woman until further resources were available. “I ended up holding onto her to keep her in place because I wasn’t sure of her injuries at the time.” Megan told reporters, “It was also important to keep her calm, it was a pretty traumatic event.”

She did all she could to minimize the risk of further injury to the woman after the crash. With glass and other hazardous elements all around, she didn’t even hesitate to put herself at risk.

After some time, Megan’s boyfriend Joshua Daugherty arrived along with other emergency responders. He came to Megans aid and noticed that she was shaking and having contractions.

The couple began to assume that she was going into labour and decided it was best to get Megan checked into a hospital. “I don’t know how I did what I did because the cramping was so bad,” Megan said, “I must have been running on adrenaline.”

A Baby Is Born Following the Crash

Less than 24 hours after the crash, Megan and Joshua welcomed a baby girl named Charlotte to their family. Joining their two other children Ellie, 6, and Jameson, 5. The accident had knocked the baby into a traverse - or sideways - position and induced labor a week early, but thankfully labor was smooth and the baby is healthy. Now, Charlotte will have an amazing story to tell about her mom when she gets older.

The Baltimore fire department described Megan as a “true public servant”. Even in an instance where there was high risk for her safety, she did not hesitate to help others. Fire Chief Joanne Run commented on Megan’s heroics saying, “We take pride in our dedicated Fire and EMS personnel. Not only do they give their all when they are on duty, but also when they are off duty. We congratulate FF Warfield and her family and appreciate her service.”

In the days following Charlottes birth, Megan mentioned to reporters that she is eager to get back to work. She had been doing administrative duties during pregnancy and missed her old routine. “I’ve been itching to get back out,” she said, “It’s what I was meant to do.” She is clearly great at her job based off what she demonstrated right before giving birth.

Megan showed courage and strength in a moment of uncertainty. Some people are just hardwired to help others.

Racism Quotes

Racism is considered the marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges another race. The term is applied in many areas of a society that perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race or strengthen racial inequalities in education, health care, income, and civil rights.

Ever since the 20th century, the concept of biological race is considered a cultural invention that has no scientific basis. The progress over the past half-century has been impressive, but the nation still has a long way to go to reach true racial equality.
