Kevin O’Leary’s Morning Routine Offers Us the Key to Having a Successful Day
We all have our morning routine. For some of us it may be calling our mom while we make our coffee or reading the morning news. What works for one person may not work for another, but according to Kevin O’Leary, it’s about being all business as soon as you wake up.
O’Learly is a pretty busy guy. For starters, he spends up to 12 hours a day filming “Shark Tank” episodes, and that doesn’t count all the time he needs to spend working on his own investments and companies.
So how does he start his day fresh and ready for business? Well, for starters, he wakes up early, he recently shared in an Instagram video. “I wake up at 4:30 a.m.,” O’Leary said on CNBC Make It’s Instagram.
O’Leary has shared that he sleeps around six hours at night, which is actually less than the Center for Disease Control recommends, but he is a fan of perking himself up during the day with power naps. “My secret power is napping anywhere,” he said in the Instagram video “I squeeze in a lot of 20-minute power snoozes.”
That morning pre-dawn wakeup is followed by around 45 minutes of cardio workouts at the gym, and then he heads to work. O’Leary then starts his work day by checking out the morning headlines.
He likes to “read the news, check the stock markets, have a cup of coffee and get my day started,” O’Leary shared, while enjoying said morning coffee. We feel him there!
“Do I pay $2.50 for a coffee? Never, never, never do I do that,” O’Leary said. “That is such a waste of money for something that costs 20 cents. I never buy a frape-latte-blah-blah-blah-woof-woof-woof for $2.50.”
“I drink coffee, one cup every morning,” he explains. “It costs about 18 cents to make it, and I invest the rest.”
It’s so interesting to see how a rich, successful man got there and stays there. He doesn’t waste time. He starts his day early and healthy, with a workout, and then when fresh and ready for his day gets starting on morning headlines before getting into the bulk of the day.
It also shows that having wealth is never an excuse to be wasteful. Of course he can afford expensive coffeehouse beverages, but why spend that much when you can make it yourself at home? Those pennies really do add up, and when they do add up, you want to keep them, not waste them!
That may be something worth considering next time you start your own day, waiting in that long line for an extra-hot white chocolate mocha with extra foam. You could have started your day a lot sooner, and cheaper!
