Newlywed Nurse Jumps To Rescue A Car Crash Victim While Still In Her Wedding Gown

Rachel Taylor was just headed home from her wedding ceremony when she and her husband noticed a road accident. Without hesitating, she immediately jumped to offer her help.

By now, we're all aware of how heroic nurses are. If anything, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown just how incredibly resilient and tenacious our nurses are. From working long and tiring shifts in full protective gear to contracting the virus while on duty, they selflessly put themselves on the line to protect others.

And being a nurse is a full-time job. As Rachel Taylor proves to the world, you never really clock out of the job--even on your wedding day.

They had just celebrated their wedding

Rachel Taylor 22, and her husband Calvin, 23 had just celebrated their wedding on June 21st 2020. They were headed to their new home in Inver Grove Heights when they came across a car accident on a road in South St. Paul.

Rachel, a nurse by profession, was still in her wedding gown, but when she saw the accident, she directly jumped into medical mode. She told Twin Cities Pioneer Press the story.

I saw a couple of people dragging a woman over to the side of the road. I could see a gash in her right leg. I think I saw her bone in it.

Her nurse instincts took over

Despite the limitations of her wedding gown, Rachel immediately ran to offer her services. She dragged the woman to the side of the road, out of harm’s way, and did her best to keep calm until paramedics arrived.

Rachel’s husband observed the situation and took a picture of his heroic wife in action.

In a Facebook post, he wrote, "On our way back to our home after an amazing and beautiful wedding day, literally blocks from our new home, we saw a large SUV crash into another accident involving three other vehicles.

"As we pulled over, we saw people pulling a woman from between two cars with a gash in her leg that went down to her femur," Calvin continued in his post.

My rockstar of a bride gets out of the car, wedding dress and all, and rushes over to help while I called 911.

He said that Rachel held the injured woman and talked to her to keep her calm for about 15 minutes until EMTs could get her on a stretcher.

‘Rachel and I are on our way to our honeymoon, and I am still blown away that she got out of the car in a scary situation to do what she does best,' he added.

Rachel said that she spent most of the time just trying to reassure the woman. "I just talked to her. I said, 'You’re so strong. You’re so brave. I’m so proud of you,'" Rachel said.

She was meant to be a nurse

The victim, Tammy Peterson, is grateful for Rachel's selfless and heroic actions.

"She was awesome and helped save my life by keeping me focused, and calm. She certainly is a gifted angel and chose the right career path," Tamara Peterson said.

Tammy is doing great. At the moment, she's at home recovering and hopes to meet the Taylors again to say thank you. A GoFundMe page has been launched for her medical expenses.

As for Rachel, the moment was also revelatory to her, as she acquired a newfound confidence in herself.

I just went into nurse mode. It seemed pretty natural. I was pretty surprised. I’ve always been lacking in confidence about my nursing abilities so it was nice to see that in a situation like that, I knew what to do.

Take the time

Alright, we are not all nurses or skilled in first aid practices. But, sometimes, taking the time out of your day to help out someone when they're in need can make a whole difference.
