NBA Player Asks His Former High School Coach to Be His Roommate - And the Reason Why Is Heartwarming

High school coaches are the real MVPs. They're not "just" coaches. They're surrogate parents, counselors, and role models, providing support that goes way beyond the playing field. These mentors play a starring role in shaping not just the athletic abilities of their students, but also their character and life skills. Even when high school athletes go pro and hit the big leagues, many of them never forget the ones who stood by them, cheering them on from the sidelines, long before the spotlights and fame. For 25-year-old NBA Knicks center star, Mitchell Robinson, his high school basketball coach had a profound impact on not only his career but on his life as well. So when his former coach lost his wife of 31 years to cancer earlier this year, Mitchell stepped up and delivered a slamdunk — inviting the grieving man to live with him in New York so he wouldn't be alone. Who Is William "Butch" Stockton?Mitchell Robinson's journey to NBA stardom began in the hallways of Chalmette High School in Louisiana back in 2015. The story goes that Butch heard about the new "tall kid walking in the neighborhood" after Mitchell moved to St. Bernard Parish with his family.Butch, sensing a rare opportunity, actively recruited Mitchell to attend the high school and play for his basketball team.He coached Mitchell from 2015 to 2017. But the two bonded over more than just the game. "Mitch was just so shy and quiet and my wife just took a liking to him a lot," Butch told ESPN. "At first, when I told her about Mitchell coming to the school, [I said] 'there's something special about him, just his demeanor, and I think we could really help him later on in his life.' And my wife said, 'We're definitely going to do that.' And from that day on, my wife really became very close to Mitchell."And when the basketball star got drafted by the New York Knicks in 2018, Butch and his wife, Dawn, were cheering the loudest of all. When Tragedy Strikes, Mitchell Proves He’s the Real MVPEven after Mitchell became "one of the NBA's #1 top shot-blocking big men" and signed a whopping 4-year, $60 MILLION contract in 2022, he still never forgot his roots. When Dawn, 70, was in the final stage of metastatic cancer and entered the hospital in August, Mitchell never left her side. He visited her every day. After her death on September 13, he posted a heartfelt tribute on social media to the woman he called "Momma." And after her funeral, he didn't stop being there for her and his former coach. During the New York Knicks game against the Detroit Pistons last Thursday, Butch shared that after the death of his wife of 31 years, Mitchell invited him to New York to live with him."He said, 'Coach, there's no reason for you to stay in Louisiana anymore. You come to New York with me and enjoy yourself,'" Butch told MSG Network’s Rebecca Haarlow. "Get your mind back straight because you know how much you loved your wife. I loved your wife."How an NBA Star Is Paying It BackButch took him up on his offer and the two have been unlikely roommates since the start of the season.“It’s just been a great situation, to be honest with you,” Butch said.Mitchell agrees. "He's a great guy who helped me get to where I'm at," the NBA player said. "So you know, I'm bringing him along with me after everything that happened over the summer. It works out for the best. I can help him out. He helped me."The plan is for Butch to stay until the end of the season. In the meantime, besides their obvious love for the game, the two are enjoying watching Christmas movies together and hanging out with Mitchell's dogs. For years, Butch was there for Mitchell, helping him to get to where he is today. And now? When Butch needs him the most, Mitchell is happily returning the favor. “It’s the least that I can do. It’s been cool.”Mitchell RobinsonMitchell may be the MVP on the court, but it's obvious that he's an even bigger one off it. 22-Year-Old Dad Drives to Job Interview With Expired License - Cop Pulls Him Over and Makes Him an Unexpected Offer

Job interviews are stressful enough on their own. But imagine you’re on your way to one when all of a sudden police sirens start going off behind you. Your motivation would probably dwindle pretty fast. That was the situation a 22-year-old man named Ka’Shawn Baldwin found himself in back in 2019 when he was on his way to an interview at FedEx.That unlucky day on the road, Baldwin had all kinds of thoughts going through his head. He knew his license had expired, but he didn’t know the vehicle, which he had borrowed from his friend, also had an expired license plate.“Car’s going to get towed, I’m going to go to jail for not driving with a valid license. More tickets, more fines, that’s all I was thinking about,” he told Good Morning America.“The routine thing is to tow the car and take the person to jail who is driving the car,” he added to NBC News. The Down on His Luck Dad and the Life-Changing Police StopWhen Baldwin explained to Officer Roger Gemoules that he was driving illegally because he had no other way to get to his job interview (where he would hopefully be able to start making money to pay for his expired license and to provide for his two-year-old daughter), he got an unexpected break that set him up for success. With everything that’s been going on lately in the community and around here, police really get a bad rap.Officer Roger Gemoules to GMAAt the time, Gemoules was a high school resource officer with the Cahokia Police Department in Illinois. However, the school was closed for spring break so he was on patrol instead. When he came across Baldwin, he practiced a bit of active listening. After hearing his story, he decided to help him out rather than give him a ticket he probably couldn’t afford to pay. Instead, he followed Baldwin back to his house, then gave him a ride to the job interview. In the end, Baldwin was only a few minutes late.“He was polite when I pulled him over and he seemed like a good young man, so I wanted to give him a chance,” Gemoules added to NBC News. "I knew if I gave him a bunch of tickets and towed his car, it would be tough to recover from."“I was shocked that he actually gave me a ride to the interview. Normally cops, from where I’m from, they don’t really do stuff like that. It meant everything to me. It brought my spirits up,” Baldwin explained to GMA.How a Police Officer Helped Turn a Man’s Luck AroundAs it turns out, Gemoules’ offer of help did more than pick up a young guy’s spirits -- it also helped him land the job. Baldwin later posted about the entire experience on Facebook in a post that went viral. And when he learned that he had been hired, he sent Gemoules a DM to thank him again."I never looked at police in a negative manner or in a positive manner," Baldwin added to NBC News. "I never looked at them in any manner. But this just made me give them more respect than I did before."It meant everything to me. It brought my spirits up.Ka’Shawn BaldwinGemoules, meanwhile, was celebrated by his department for his kind actions, and the mayor of Cahokia also thanked him for showing compassion and putting community first. “I’m very proud of Officer Gemolus and the outstanding judgment and decision-making that he used in helping this young man,” Mayor Curtis McCall Jr. said. How a Police Officer Proved Leading With Your Heart Can Be InspiringWe all know the law’s the law, but sometimes good people find themselves in unfortunate circumstances with no other options. Legally, Gemoules could have very well given Baldwin a ticket, and it could have resulted in him missing that job interview, not to mention the fact he would have yet another bill to pay.Sometimes, as Gemoules proved, it really is better to give people a pass. Whether you intentionally forget how a friend or relative owes you some money, you let a parent with impatient kids cut in line at a grocery store, or you forgive a friend for being snappy after they’ve had a bad day, there are many ways to practice compassion in our everyday lives as well.As this story reminds us, it’s a lot easier for everyone if sometimes we forgo that black-and-white view in favour of those softer shades of grey.More from Goalcast:Police Officer Intends to Ticket a Parked Car – But the Surprising Note the Driver Had Left for Him Changes His MindStruggling Mom Has Parking Tickets Worth $460 – Judge Asks Her to Pay Only $200, Then Changes His MindJudge Calls Single Mom “Irresponsible” for Her 14 Parking Tickets – Then She Made a Plea That Changed His Mind

Little Girl With Autism Tries to Blow Out Strangers Birthday Candles His Reaction Goes Viral

Parents of children with autism are, unfortunately, used to facing stigmas in their daily lives. So often, strangers can judge them or act harshly toward their children because they don’t understand what it’s actually like to walk in their shoes.Sometimes, though, strangers can turn all of that around with a simple act of kindness. That’s exactly what one man practiced on his birthday, and now his actions are inspiring others around the globe.A Birthday CelebrationA man was out to dinner with some friends one day to celebrate his 29th birthday. After the meal, the servers came over with a cake and did a short “Happy Birthday” performance. Typically in these situations, other restaurant-goers will take note and smile. Sometimes, they’ll even sing along. On this particular day though, a young girl with autism saw the celebration and wanted to be involved. In a video shared by Good News Correspondent on X, the girl comes over to the table and tries to blow out the candles. Immediately, her father follows and tries to stop her, but the birthday boy surprises everyone by insisting the little girl be the one to blow them out.The smile on the little girl’s face (not to mention the one on her dad’s face) is so sweet that thousands of people shared the video and reacted to it on social media. An Inspiring MessageIn the comments, you can see how inspired people were by this man’s kindness. Parents were particularly touched and thankful to see such a positive interaction.“As a mom, I have to say thank God for people like this young man,” one person wrote. “Others have to deal with strangers telling us that autism is not an excuse and verbally attacking us.”Someone else gave a shout-out to the girl’s dad. “Sweet. And respect for Papa trying to do his best,” she wrote. “Our special needs kiddos are not always received positively or given much grace from strangers when they have impulsive, compulsive, sensory seeking moments.”"If you can be anything, be nice."“If you can be anything, be nice,” someone else added. Another person shared that sentiment: “Kind people deserve the best.”Choosing KindnessThe reason this story touched so many people is that it inspires us all to be a little kinder in our own lives, too. Sometimes, we can get in a bad mood or feel like things aren’t going our way, and it makes us want to retreat and keep to ourselves. But, as this man proves, choosing to lead with kindness whenever we can has the potential to light up so many lives around us — including our own. That’s why it’s important to put ourselves in other people’s shoes and why we should always try and remember that we never really know what others are going through deep down.Whether it’s bringing someone an extra coffee, baking treats for a neighbor, or even just checking in on someone who has been having a tough time lately, these gestures matter. Besides, the more we practice leading with kindness, the more we can integrate it into our daily lives. From there, who knows who we may inspire.More from Goalcast:Distraught Mom Orders Meal To-Go After Her Son With Autism Has a Meltdown in Cracker Barrel – Attached to the Bag Is a NoteBullied Non-Verbal Autistic Woman Named Valedictorian – Her Unbelievable Speech Will Inspire YouWorried Mom Sends 7-Year-Old Autistic Son on Plane Alone – His Seat Neighbor Does Something Shocking

Careless Driver Doesnt Care About Blocking Handicapped Womans Parking Spot - This Conflict Drives Her to Action

In a routine quest for donuts for a work meeting, a seemingly simple trip took an unexpected turn, shedding light on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and how one careless person can cause more harm than they think. In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it's pretty easy to slip into a mode of not paying much attention to the impact our actions can have on others. We've all been there — rushing through tasks, thinking about our own agenda, and sometimes not realizing how our seemingly small choices can affect someone else. But, as the one handicapped driver reminds us, a moment of carelessness can create ripples that harm others in unexpected ways, especially when it comes to something as basic as parking.Drive-Thru DramaA simple donut run for a work meeting turned into an eye-opening experience about the real consequences of not paying attention. One wheelchair bound employee generously took up the tasks of bringing snacks to her workplace for her colleagues. In order to skip the challenges of getting out of her car, the disabled driver decided to hit the drive-thru. It should have been a simple grab-and-go, but what unfolded was unfortunately so much more disrespectful and time consuming than that. When the disabled driver realized the drive-thru employee had messed up her order (always double check your order at the window), she opted to skip the "bananas" drive-thru line and make the proper donut swap inside the store.Spotting an open handicap spot in the parking lot — made the treat swap that much sweeter. A momentary feeling of luck washed over her. Little did she know that what seemed like a stroke of good fortune would quickly turn into a frustrating ordeal. She Was Trapped for 17 MinutesAs it turns out, the only accessible spot available was blocked by a careless driver who had parked in the loading zone.Trapped in her car for what felt like an eternity, she patiently waited for the driver to return, enduring a painstaking 17 minutes before the careless driver emerged from the donut shop. When the driver finally returned, her utter indifference to the situation spoke volumes. In a now viral post, the driver shared her story: "I wasn’t able to get out of my car for 17 minutes because the only spot that I could park in was blocked by someone who parked in the loading zone. When the woman who drove the car came out, she saw me, and my wheelchair with the door open, but did not apologize or say anything. I asked her to please not park in the handicap loading zone again and reminded her it was for people who use wheelchairs. Her response: 'Whatever.'"The irony reached new heights when the same driver, unaffected by inconvenience caused, told the disabled driver to "shut her car door" so she could drive away.People Were Outraged — And They Demanded JusticeThe woman who runs a facebook awareness page called "The ADA Nerd", got a lot of people riled up in the comment section when they read her story. Needless to say — they were on her side."The stripes mean NO Parking. Period," read one comment by Dena Parker. "It’s a loading zone. It’s there for ramps and lifts. It's what enables a person to get in and out of their vehicle. If you park there, you are extremely selfish and ignorant."Another user wrote: "Tell us you are an empathy void without saying you are an empathy void." The comment section was flooded with stranger's supporting the disabled driver's experience, with some even angrily requesting she "expose" the driver's license plate. But even though the experience was frustrating, the driver admitted she "didn't feel right" making the offending driver's information public. She wasn't trying to get revenge on the driver who dismissed her, she was instead trying to use the opportunity to shed a light on the daily challenges a disabled person may face, and encourage others to use their influence for good.Convenience vs. ConsiderationAs John Holmes once said:“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.”John HolmesThese words echo with resonance, especially in the context of a seemingly straightforward parking dilemma that unfolded into a much deeper lesson. Born out of a lack of consideration, this experience serves as a heartfelt reminder of the everyday need for empathy and awareness, especially in matters of making life "accessible" for everyone. In the commotion of everyday life, this one woman's story may seem like a mere parking hiccup, but in reality, it's a story of choices — convenience versus compassion. As we navigate our daily routines, this encounter gently nudges us to consider the impact of our actions on others. In a world that often prizes the quick and easy route, it's a call to pause, to lift people up, and to make the compassionate choice. It's in these small, human moments that we collectively shape a society where kindness prevails, and spaces become truly welcoming for everyone.More from Goalcast:Man Parks in Handicap Spot at Grocery Store – Then a Stranger Keys His Entire Car Because He Doesn’t ‘Look’ DisabledDisabled Mom Leaves the Mall With Her Daughter – Finds a Cruel Note Shaming Her for Parking in a Handicap SpotMom Shamed For Taking Up Handicapped Parking Spot Has Perfect Response

Couple Hears Someone Knock on Their Door Late at Night - The Guest Wasnt Who They Were Expecting

Never underestimate the power of community. A strong community exemplifies kindness and togetherness; its members understand the power of sticking together and helping one another out in our times of need.Neighbors in a Florida community showcased that power of community one night when they answered a late-night knock at their door and discovered a woman in trouble. An Unexpected VisitorYouTube/Local 10 NewsEsther and Joel Johnson were winding down from their respective days in their Florida home one night when they heard a knock at their door. It was around 10:30 p.m., so they weren’t expecting anyone and didn’t want to answer. However, after a little reflection, they decided to take their dog out and see what was happening.Outside, they spotted something unexpected: a 94-year-old woman without any shoes on. She was crawling on the ground and was in clear need of help.“Every time she tried to stand up, she’d fall back down,” Esther told Local 10 News. Esther and Joel asked the woman her name and learned she was Sixta Andinom. They tried to help her find her home, but Andinom didn’t seem to know where she was, so the couple called 911.Missing Since That MorningWhen Esther spoke with the operator, she discovered that her neighbor had been missing since that morning. Her son had reported her disappearance, and the family was concerned because Andinom has Alzheimer’s.“We gave the operator the name, and the operator ran it, and that’s when we were able to determine she was a missing person since 10:30 that morning,” Esther explained.Thankfully, responders were able to reunite Andinom with her son. The next day the outlet returned to the home to see how Andinom was doing, but she had stepped out again. Another neighbor helped her, and the police were called. That’s when the outlet learned that Andinom’s two sons usually take turns caring for their mother, but one brother was out of town, and things had been extra stressful.Needless to say, the son was thankful that so many neighbors in the community had stepped up to help him care for his mother, especially since he had been at work both times she left the house.Stepping Up When You CanFor their part, Joel and Esther were just doing what they could and trying to be good neighbors. They were happy that they were able to help this woman get back home and, hopefully, now receive the care she needs.“I may get to that point one day, and I just hope someone will treat me with kindness as well,” Esther said.“To be honest, it’s second nature. You see someone in need, you want to help,” Joel added. It’s a beautiful reminder that we can all watch out for one another in our own neighborhoods, whether we live in a condo, an apartment complex, or a street lined with trees. When everyone looks out for everyone else, we feel safer, secure, and as though we belong. That could mean cutting the grass for a neighbor or picking up their mail. Or it could mean letting someone's dog outside when they have to work late. Perhaps it's grabbing a hungry neighbor some dinner the next time you run out for a bite. Or it could be something simple, like waving hello or introducing yourself to the new person on the block. However you contribute to your neighborhood, you’re an important part of your community. Besides, as Esther said, we never know when we may need help in return. So helping others doesn’t just feel good and right; it may also be good karma down the line. Man Attends Auction to Buy Back His Beloved Family Farm - His Heart Sinks When He Sees 200 Farmers Who Can Outbid Him

*Featured image contains photo by Soul Winner's For ChristIt was deafening. At that moment, all David could feel was his heart beating and his eyes welling up with tears. When it's over, he and his father are too stunned to utter a word.Broken Family TiesPhoto by Jalent HueserWe all have different symbols that keep our family's memory alive. For some, it's pictures, others jewelry. For David, it's land that keeps his family roots rich. Nowhere is that tradition stronger than in his hometown Nebraska.Per Nebraskacorn.com, 98% of the 45,901 farms in the state are family-owned. Of them, over 9,000 have kept them in their family for over a hundred years.Yet, according to Good News Network, when David was just a baby, 80 acres of his family's land was divvied up and sold off to a distant relative, with it, his family history being sold off as well.As he'd heard this story retold growing up, it gave him the motivation to one day reclaim that land to make the farm -- and family -- whole again. For years, that seemed like a distant dream. Incredibly, when he was in his 20s, his father and he learned that the 80 acres were being put up for auction in two short weeks.David said that while it was a long shot, it was one he had to take. “Even though I dreamt of getting the land back for as long as I could remember, when the day came, I wasn’t ready,” he recalled. And so, after two stressful, sleepless weeks, he put together his 'best number' to put forward in the auction. But no amount of planning could prepare them for what that day would bring. A Stunning Auction BidPhoto by RDNE stock projectWhen father and son arrived at the auction, their collective hearts sank. That's because they were surrounded by 200 farmers, most of whom they knew could easily outbid them. But, here they were, and with bated breath, they put forward their bid. The auctioneer turned to them as David and his father made their opening bid. The auctioneer nodded and called for a second bid.Silence.Maybe the room needed a breather, so the auctioneer called for a break. When they reconvened, the auctioneer again called for a second bid.Silence again.Another break, another call for bids, another bout of silence. At that point, the auctioneer awarded David and his father the 80 acres, and with that, they completed this family puzzle. How 200 Farmers Proved That Community Is FamilyReflecting on that day, David is still overcome with emotion. When asked what he thought happened, he can muster only one word: Respect.Meanwhile, the other 5 million viewers had much more to say."I take my hat off to the ‘200’ farmers who banded together in total compassion for one of their own. More than brilliant — simply wonderful," wrote one."That's what you call a community. A beautiful sight to see!" beamed another. Sure enough, among quotes about family, one by Richard Bach reads, "The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life."While blood ties were motivation for David and his father, it's family that gave this story its incredible ending.Just imagine for a moment a world where we treat everyone like the salt of the earth. What a wonderful world that would be. Police Officer Intends to Ticket a Parked Car - But the Surprising Note the Driver Had Left for Him Changes His Mind

*Featured image contains photo by Kindel MediaIn a world where alarming statistics about alcohol-related accidents flood the headlines, one story from a summer night in 2017 shines as a beacon of responsibility and compassion.Picture this: A Wisconsin resident, after enjoying a night out, realizes that they've had a few too many drinks to drive safely. Instead of making the risky choice to get behind the wheel, they decide to walk home, leaving their car in a metered parking lot overnight. A responsible decision, no doubt, but one that could have led to a costly parking ticket. However, what happened next is what makes this story so heartwarming. The Note One Police Officer Found on a Car’s WiperPhoto by Erik McleanOfficer Jim Hellrood, a parking control officer with the Wausau Police Department, approached the vehicle with the intention of writing a parking citation. As he was about to place the ticket on the windshield, he noticed something unexpected — a note carefully tucked beneath the wiper. The note, left by the responsible driver, was a plea for understanding. They had made the conscious choice not to drive under the influence, even if it meant risking a parking ticket. “Please take pity on me,” the note said, “I walked home … Safe choices. =)”The officer's response was simple but powerful: "Pity Granted, Just A Warning."This compassionate response from Officer Hellrood didn't just save the driver from a parking fine; it highlighted the importance of making safe choices, especially when alcohol is involved.
