Uber Driver Helps Woman After Her Belongings Were Stolen at Coachella - So She Raises $200,000 for Him

The power of social media.

Popular influencer Becca Moore had an unforgettable weekend at Coachella, but not for the reasons you might think.

A popular influencer on social media, Becca was expecting to post photos of her and her friends enjoying music acts and the lovely California weather, but instead shared a very different story.

What One Woman Did When She Found Her Belongings Missing

Things took a different turn when she discovered that some of her most important belongings had been stolen at a party, including her phone, car keys, and credit cards. After making it back to her hotel, an Uber was called for her by hotel staff in the morning, and she met an unlikely hero.

Luckily for Becca, her Uber driver that day was Raul Torres, who went above and beyond to help her out. According to the story she recounted to her followers on TikTok, she told Raul that her belongings had been stolen when she got in the car, and he responded "not on my watch."

Torres took her to a cell phone store, and later to the police station where she was able to file a formal report. However, his kindness did not stop there. Torres eventually ended his shift early, and accompanied Becca to a nearby Starbucks where the two waited while Becca's mother tracked the missing phone using the Find my Friends feature.

The strategy was a success, and the two soon had an address for the stolen phone. Torres bravely drove Becca to a vacated Airbnb, where the thief had left Becca's phone and credit cards. Becca told the story to her legion of followers on TikTok, in a video that can be seen below.

the uber driver that saved me from going missing is @buds4u559!! 😭 after spending the day w him he told me his daughter is a senior in high school & is having a hard time going through chemo. i made a gofundme, he could’ve left me and didn’t have to help me the way he did! I’d love to help his fam give his daughter a normal end to her senior year of high school this year (prom!!) i’m putting it in my bio!!

How an Uber Driver and TikTok Star Became Unlikely Friends

She describes their day as duo detectives, calling Torres an "angel." The two struck up an unlikely friendship, and Torres shared that his daughter Myra was actually battling cancer.

Becca decided to return the generosity, and hatched a plan to help Torres using her platform. She launched a fundraising page for him and his family, where she wrote: "I learned that Raul has a daughter in high school who is currently struggling through chemo. He told me all he wants is for his daughter to have a normal end to her senior year, and to be able to go to big events like prom and graduation. After speaking to him and his wife, I realized how lucky I was to have gotten that specific Uber ride. I want to help any way I can, so a GoFundMe seems like the best way."

The campaign smashed through its goal of $150,000, coming from almost 15,000 different donors. The story quickly went viral, many reacting to the spontaneity and the kindness that characterized the whole ordeal. Though the whole encounter was catalyzed by a theft, it ended up being a net-positive for both Becca and Raul that day.

How an Uber Driver Proved Good People Are Always Rewarded

Becca's story is a powerful reminder that sometimes, the most unexpected people can become our biggest heroes.

Raul, an assuming Uber driver, was able to turn a disappointing situation into a life-changing experience for Becca, while her decision to pay it forward shows us that even small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect and make a difference in the world.

It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives and forget the impact that a simple act of kindness can have on someone else. Becca's story reminds us that there is always an opportunity to make a difference and that even the smallest gestures can have a big impact.

So the next time you find yourself in a situation where you can help someone else, don't hesitate to do so. You never know what kind of impact you might have on their life.
