The situation in Thailand has the world on edge. 12 boys and their soccer coach have been trapped in a cave for 12 days and an intense rescue operation has been underway by rescue experts and military personnel from around the world.

And now one of the world’s foremost geniuses is offering to help.

Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that he’d be willing to help the rescue operation.

So how would Musk be able to help? It’s not like he could jump in a state-of-the-art deepwater shift and pop into the cave to save the boys – that’s more like something director and deepsea explorer James Cameron would do.

One of the options for rescuing the boys is to drill down to get them. However, the Thai governor ruled out drilling as an option because the boys are less than a mile below the surface so it’d be too risky. That could be where Musk comes in.

Musk’s expertise under the ground resides in The Boring Company, which aims to make tunnel boring faster and cheaper in advance of his exciting Hyperloop project. Could Musk know a way to rescue the boys quickly and safely that the Thai governor isn’t aware of? If he does have this kind of drilling expertise, it’s super exciting to think about all the potential it could have, from lightning-quick travel to traffic-less shipping.

But there isn’t much time to wait and find out what Musk can do. Monsoon rains are on the way, so the rescuers are trying to save the team in the next couple of days.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve already put my faith in Musk for rescuing humanity – why not put our faith in him for this nailbiting situation as well?
