She may be known as Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons and a host of other impressive titles on Game of Thrones, but – or maybe especially because of it – Emilia Clarke is no stranger to haters and naysayers.

However, just like her fearless onscreen character, the London native has learned how to push the noise aside.

Speaking with People at a Star Wars red carpet event, Clarke had a very simple, yet powerful lesson for personal happiness and confidence:

“You do you. Whatever it is that makes you happy, that makes you want to get up and dance in the morning or even that just makes you want to, you know, feel content. Just keep doing that, whatever that looks like.”

Don’t allow toxic people in your space

Not only did the Solo: A Star Wars Story star encourage everyone to pursue their dreams and happiness without guilt, Clarke added an additional piece of very important advice: ignore negative and toxic people who only criticize and put others down. “Don’t let anyone else hate on that or get in the way of whatever that is,” she added with confidence.

As for what makes her happy other than her white-hot career? Surprisingly, it’s not punishing evil-doers or pursuing her birthright like her onscreen character. “Every morning when I wake up, I make sure I turn the radio on really loud, ain’t nobody around, it’s just me and my bathroom, and I have dance,” she said.

Clarke also emphasized the importance of self-care and seizing every small moment to feel happy, especially when life gets crazy and stress levels go up. “Yeah, there’s just silly things… It’s just really important to keep doing those things.”
