Anyone who has ever gone through a restaurant drive-thru knows that every once in a while mix-ups occur. Oftentimes it's a case of receiving the wrong order, or an item is missing.

But sometimes, you get more than you bargained for, like an extra side order of fries. Or...a bag full of cash?

Crazy as it seems, that's exactly what happened to one McDonald's drive-thru customer and he documented his bizarre experience in a now-viral TikTok.

McDonald’s Drive-Thru Customer Gets More Than What He Paid For

TikTok user Josiah Vargas (@dookiedoeboy) thought he was picking up his breakfast order at a McDonald's drive-thru in Elkhart, Indiana. But, as it turns out, he got a whole lot more "dough" than just what's in a Sausage McMuffin.

Imagine his surprise when he opened up the to-go bag to discover that it was filled with the restaurant's daily deposit in the form of several plastic bags full of cash, estimated to be worth $5,000.

Shocked by his discovery, Vargas decided to share what happened next on TikTok.

“I just went to McDonald’s and they just handed me my Sausage McMuffin and this bag,” Vargas says in the video which has amassed more than 2.3M views.

"Why? There’s a couple thousand dollars here. Like, why would they do this?" he asks, holding up individual Ziplock bags full of dollar bills and coins.

The situation presented an awkward moral dilemma and Vargas wasn't "lovin' it." But he knew what he had to do.

"And now I have to return this because I’m a good person, I guess," he says. "Why would you guys do this to me? Do you know how bad I want this money? Why put me in this situation?”

Vargas returned to the McDonald's and filmed himself entering the restaurant, bag in hand. Walking up to the employees he jokingly asked, "You guys laundering money around here?"

Needless to say, the employees were extremely relieved to see him. They greeted him with hugs and tears, with one proclaiming that he was a "blessing from God."

As thanks for his good deed, he initially received the promise of free McDonald's for a month, however, as he was driving away employees called him back and also handed him a cash reward of $200.

He ends his TikTok with a message to do good.

“Do good, people. Return $5000, got $200 and free McDonald’s for a month,” he says. “Good trade value and maybe a viral TikTok.”

People Are McLovin’ the Good Samaritan

The viral video has led to a wave of positive reactions, receiving over 495K likes. Nearly 23K people took to the comments, praising Vargas for his honesty and integrity.

"Someone kept their job because you did the right thing good on you man," wrote one commenter.

Another wrote, "Your smile when you got back in the car. You’re an incredible human being ❤️."

And it turns out, he's definitely on Santa's Nice list this year. Even the big elf himself weighed in using his official TikTok account: "Your integrity is worth more. Good job. 💚♥️🎅🏻"

Of course, it does beg the question, what would you do if you found yourself in the same situation? The answer, it seems, isn't a simple one. Some people were quick to say they would have kept the money, "you’re are a much better man than me."

Or at least know someone who would have pocketed it, "I’ve been surrounded by people that would’ve walked away with the money. Great job!"

One TikToker hilariously responded, "Every time I’ve been told the ice cream machine was down would have played in my head over and over when making the choice 😂."

Thankfully for the McDonald's employees involved, Vargas obviously didn't let this sway his decision.

In the end, not only did Vargas save the day, but he also got that viral TikTok, proving that, while sometimes it can feel like the opposite, people really do still value honesty and integrity over greed.
