Thai Sailors Risk Their Lives To Rescue Kittens Trapped On Sinking Ship

Thai sailors faced a Hollywood thriller-like rescue when they risked their lives to save four kittens stuck on board of a sinking ship.

The kitties were cold and afraid

It's being called the "purrfect rescue."

Thai Navy sailors were wrapping up a successful rescue — eight crew members, three Thai and five from Myanmar had all been taken to safety. At this point, the ship they were rescued from was vertical and nearly fully submerged.

Then, a sailor noticed there were more lives on board.

“I used my camera to zoom in to the boat, and I saw one or two cats popping their heads out,” First-Class Petty Officer Wichit Pukdeelon of the navy’s air and coastal defense division told Reuters.

A heroic rescue

In a Facebook post of the rescue with nearly 20,000 likes, the cats are seen wet and huddled together in terror. In another photo, a sailor in a life vest is swimming with a rope to rescue the cats.

After the sailor managed to pick up the cats, he put them on his back as his crewmembers pulled them all to safety.

Safe on shore

In another Facebook post, the cats are seen safe and sound back on land, with plenty of kibble to bring them back to full strength.

"All four cats are well taken care of," they wrote.

Heroes for all

We're not the only living things inhabiting this planet. We must love and protect the animals and plants, too, and it's so uplifting to see the Thai navy recognize that and not leave these kitties behind.
