My boss said, "we've decided to eliminate your position."
I was a national sales trainer, and it was my dream job. With only a high school diploma, making a six-figure income, I thought I was doing well for myself.
However, I quickly realized it was time for me to take a drastic step to get my degree. I want to share three steps to create a successful future. The first step is, ask for support. In order to obtain success in the future, we must get support.
I remember doing my second statistics class, in my opinion, the hardest class in the curriculum. Yes. My husband who was battling advanced stage four colon cancer was hospitalized twice in one month, and I was stressed to the max.
I came to a fork in the road of whether to quit or to continue with school. I made my decision, picked up the phone, and called my teammates to tell them that I was quitting school. And they refused to let me quit.
They held my hand during a very trying time. As the saying goes, "Teamwork makes the dream work." And without my team, I would not be living my dream of being on this big screen today.
The second step to success is to keep growing and learning. Let me tell you, that the reason I stayed out of school for 25 years is because I don't do math. I did not want to do algebra or any other math. What I realize now is that anything, even math, can be tackled if we take it one step at a time.
The last step to success is to never, ever quit. We did not quit and for that, we should be proud. Don't let anyone or anything, especially ourselves, stop us from doing and being whatever we want.
We should always look for the next life-changing, drastic step to success. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. If there is a promotion you want, go for it. The business you want to start? Do it.
Do not wait for some day. There are always going to be reasons not to move forward. However, we need to be unstoppable. Do not take no for an answer. And if the answer is no, just say, "Next," and keep on steppin'.
