Customers Meet Burger King Employee at a Parking Lot - What Happens Next Brings Her to Tears

When a beloved fast-food worker's secret shocked her customers, they served her with a surprise for the ages.

Life’s been a grind for Lisa Bateman of Tappahannock, Virginia. She works two part-time, low-pay, fast-food jobs to make ends meet. One of them at Burger King, where she’s been working since 1987.

Yet she told CBS6 that she couldn't be happier and that her motivation is simple. "I really enjoy what I do. When I make them happy, I’m happy," Bateman said.

She's not alone. Her loyal Burger King customers will also tell you that they feel the love each and every time they see her.

“You go through the drive-through at any given time, and she’s just as happy as could be,” said customer Jason Cunningham.

However, customers did notice something concerning about Bateman. With rugged resilience, the 60-year-old would walk to work every day, rain or shine, something she's done for the last 7 years.

"I see her walking all the time and I figured it would be nice to do something like this for someone in our community," Cunningham said.

Little did Bateman know, that was all about to change in a big way.

The Gift Customers Got Their Favorite Burger King Employee

With Cunningham leading the charge, a GoFundMe page was created for Bateman. It was a total success, as the community raised over $4,000 for Tappahannock's top employee. With that, the stage was set for a big surprise.

One afternoon, Cunningham and some of Bateman's loyal customers waited patiently in the parking lot until the end of her shift. When she emerged, one of them stopped her in her path, with a message along with something else in hand.

We, as the town of Tappahannock, wanted to show you a bit of appreciation for your hard work, and for always giving us positive energy.

With that, she served the sweet smiling waitress the keys to her brand new car. They even gifted her some cash remaining from the money raised.

After what felt like minutes of sobbing silence, a teary Bateman had nothing but gratitude on her menu.

Oh my God, I do not know what to say but thank you!

As for work, she says that she loves her job and plans to keep working for as long as her health permits. Best of all, now she can do it cruising in style.

Make no mistake, the priceless gift in this story isn't the ride, but the sunny smile and warm attitude Bateman's beamed on her clients for years. To them, it's the least they can do in return for what she has given them.

In the end, positive vibes are like a boomerang: It might take time, but it comes right back in kind.

Racism Quotes

Racism is considered the marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges another race. The term is applied in many areas of a society that perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race or strengthen racial inequalities in education, health care, income, and civil rights.

Ever since the 20th century, the concept of biological race is considered a cultural invention that has no scientific basis. The progress over the past half-century has been impressive, but the nation still has a long way to go to reach true racial equality.

A community is so much more than people sharing a space. It's a living, breathing network of connections and shared experiences. While it's usually defined as “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common,” true community runs much deeper than that.
