Heavily Pregnant Waitress Without Paid Time off Faces Months Without an Income - Receives an Unusual Tip

One waitress could finally breathe a sigh of relief thanks to the actions of a perfect stranger.

Most workers in the service industry face a lot of uncertainty when embarking on maternity leave. Given that these jobs mostly rely on tips to bring in an income, not being at work means that there will be no money coming in when a new baby is born.

This was the case for a waitress in Arizona when she got an amazing surprise that would help her whole family.

Sarah Clark was nine months pregnant and still working on the floor waiting tables. Her plan was to keep going until she absolutely couldn’t serve anymore given that she would be getting no paid time off.

She was serving a fellow pregnant woman who was also a regular client, commiserating about how hard the last few weeks of pregnancy are and sharing how excited she was about her growing family. When her pregnant client left, Sarah was stunned by what she saw.

Sarah was floored when she saw that her tip amounted to $900.

“I couldn’t believe what I was looking at at first because it was such a high amount. Nine hundred dollars is a lot of money. It took a while for it to set in, and once it did I cried for a little while,” Sarah said.

The customer had been so generous with Sarah, but even she didn’t know how much the money meant to her family.

How a Stranger Proved the Importance of Generosity

What the customer didn’t know was that Sarah’s fiance was dealing with an injury that prevented him from working temporarily. So, not only was Sarah facing maternity leave without pay, her partner also had no income. The $900 tip would go far in helping the family cover their bills and stay afloat.

“I don’t know if she really understands how much this is going to help us this season. Me being on maternity leave and him being out of work, we’re not going to be making any income. So this is really going to help with rent and other bills and things like that,” Sarah admitted.

Sarah’s client had the means to help Sarah with a little extra generosity, so she did just that. Even though she had no way of knowing what her server’s personal financial situation was, she knew that she had the means to help.

If we all paid it forward and acted generously whenever we have the opportunity to, who knows how many lives we could change!
