Teen Realizes Something Isnt Right at a Stop Light - Causes a Car Crash on Purpose to Save Strangers Life

It's not every day you hear that a car crash prevented an accident rather than caused it, but that's exactly what happened one morning when one high school student was on her way to school.Nobody Wanted to Help a Stranger — Until One Teenage Girl Came to the RescuePatricia Horwell / Florida WeeklyTeenager Olivia Jones had only just obtained her driver's license when the unthinkable happened. While she had stopped at a red light, Olivia looked over and noticed the driver in the lane next to her appearing unwell, to say the least. At first, Olivia wasn't sure what she was seeing. “I thought she was texting, because she was looking down, straight down," but Olivia was dead wrong. In reality what was about to happen would take "distracted driving" to a whole new level. Olivia was ready to turn away and focus on the road ahead when the worst thing that could happen, happened. "She started seizing,” Olivia recalled. It's safe to say when it comes to "fight, flight, or freeze," Olivia's definitely the former. Her fighter instincts kicked in at just the right time and the teenage athlete sprung into action — literally. YouTube / WSTP NewsWhile still at the red light, Olivia flung open her car door and launched herself in to the middle of traffic, waving and screaming to the other driver's in their cars, signalling for help. Despite her frantic efforts, not one single driver came to her aid. This shocking lack of response left Olivia with no choice, and the clock was ticking. Now completely incapacitated, the seizing driver's car was sliding into oncoming traffic. Without a moment's hesitation, Olivia did the only thing she knew how to do.She Took the Hit — So No One Else Had ToIn an act of courage and quick thinking, Olivia put herself in harm's way, in order to save the seizing driver and the other drivers in oncoming traffic. The debilitated driver was completely helpless. When Olivia realized no one else on the road was prepared to inconvenience themselves to help save a stranger (and everyone else in her path), she jumped back into her own car and did the gutsiest thing she could do.She allowed the seizing driver to T-bone her car, in order to prevent the driver from barreling head first into oncoming traffic. Olivia pulled off this crazy move by maneuvering her car up and around the cross walk and twisting her wheel all the way to the left — I bet they don't teach that in Driver's Ed.The damage wasn't pretty, but for Olivia? The real damage that would have happened had she not been there, would have been far worse than a dent in her 2003 Nissan Altima.Bobby Lewis / WSTPAfter the successful crash (you don't hear that everyday), Olivia rushed out of her car, set the woman’s vehicle in park, and removed her seatbelt. The woman had blood in her mouth and had involuntarily wet herself, so Olivia helped her onto the floor as she called 911. Only 2 minutes later, an ambulance arrived and rushed the woman to the hospital. It's easy to chalk up Olivia's bravery to just young dumb luck, but the truth is, her heroic act was just a testament to her character.Bravery Was in Her Nature and It Paid OffYouTube / WSTP NewsEven though Olivia's friends were quick to call her rescue mission "dumb," many authority figures saw her act in a different light. "She just jumped right in. It was amazing. It was amazing. We’re so proud of her," one teacher remarked of her courage.“I was just really blown away when I was told the story. That’s so her. That’s so Olivia." Leslie Hopkins, Clearwater PrincipalWhen Olivia's story was shared, it was clear she's a standout student in more ways than one. The Clearwater High School athlete is a volleyball star. She shared she had plans of attending college on a volleyball scholarship and becoming an orthopaedic surgeon — and while it may be too early to tell if Olivia has a promising career in the medical field, she certainly has the quick decision-making chops for the job!In the midst of feeling overwhelmed and scared, she still managed to find a solution. "My legs were shaking," Olivia shared, "I was really nervous."She Had No Plans to Repair Her Vehicle DamageEven though Olivia was more than happy to sport a dent on her car door (because what high school student can afford to pay for car repairs), her selfless act caught the attention of a local auto body shop — who chose to mirror Olivia's selfless act of kindness and step up. Boy, did they not disappoint.Bobby Lewis / WSTPThe mechanics surprised Olivia when they offered to fix her car for free! To sweeten the deal, the mechanics even incorporated a few extra touches, decking out Olivia's Nissan with black and red stripes, mirroring the school colors she sports on her volleyball jersey."Being young that gives her incentive to be good, to not to turn your back on somebody but to help somebody out,” said Alan Bland, the man who fixed her car.Try and Put Yourself in Someone Else’s ShoesSuccess ConsciousnessIt's easy to think we know what we'd do in a scary situation, but sometimes, when the unthinkable happens, our brains go into survival mode. Like the other drivers in traffic — we want to stay as far away from the chaos as possible.Studies have proven if you're in trouble, don't yell "HELP" — instead shout, “FIRE, FIRE, FIRE” at the top of your lungs. People will stop and pay attention if you yell "fire" because it has a connection to their safety and they will run to your aid to see what's happening. If you've ever witnessed something troubling happen and you've stood by instead of stood up — it doesn't make you a bad person. Just know it's your human nature kicking in trying to protect you. However, as Olivia's story proves, if we can find the strength to be superhuman — even if for only a few quick moments — it can make all the difference for someone who needs the "protection" more than we do.It's hard to put yourself in someone else's shoes, especially when it's an inconvenient time like rush hour...but it's not hard to imagine how grateful the driver who had the seizure is for Olivia's kindness. After all, wouldn't you be?

“She Put Her Baby’s Life Ahead of Her Own” - Strangers Reunite Mom With Lost Child Amidst Hurricane Chaos

When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas in 2017, it caused major flooding that left Dajauh Zhane Henix and her baby in neck deep water, surrounded by swift currents. Rescue workers managed to save the mother and daughter, but they were separated and taken to different shelters.Panicked without her baby, Henix asked for help on Facebook with a post and a photo of her daughter."If anybody is on the east side and at a shelter on Garret road please keep a look out for my baby," she wrote, according to Insider. "We were separated while evacuating. Pleaseeeee. She have on a pink neon shirt wrapped in a blue blanket."Constable was looking for the mother tooUnbeknownst to Henix, Constable Diaz was also looking for the baby's mother. He posted on Facebook with a photo of him holding the baby."We are trying to find the mother to this baby," the post read. "The mother was last seen wearing a purple shirt on South Lake Houston Parkway."Reunited at lastIncredibly, the post was shared more than 31,000 times allowing the mother to reunite with her baby. "This mother did what any great parent would do," Diaz wrote in a comment on the post. "She realized how fast and deep the water current was...She put her baby's life ahead of her own and asked for us to take the baby to higher ground."The baby was in great hands and we made sure she was reunited with her mother.Constable Christopher E. DiazWhen Henix got her baby back in her arms again, she breathed a huge sigh of relief. The grateful mother then proceeded to comment under Diaz's original post.Thank you sooooo much for keeping her with you!! You are a life saver [heart emoji] greatly appreciated. Dajauh Zhane HenixDon't hesitate to ask for helpIt's hard to imagine the level of anguish this mother must have felt without her baby during the flood, but as we know, the story has a happy ending. What this proves is that strangers are willing to help when we ask, and that while something can seem hopeless at the time, things have a way of working out.More uplifting stories:4 Years Ago, He Was Homeless–Today, He Bought His First HousePoor Man Who Missed Job Interview To Save A Life Had Employers Lining Up To Hire HimDomestic Abuse Survivor Marries The First Responder Who Saved Her LifeBrooklyn Landlord Cancels Rent For Hundreds Of Tenants, Setting An Unprecedented Example For OthersBe the help someone needs“Sign of life is not whether you are breathing, but whether you are helping others.” ― Abhijit Naskar

Parents Have Most Raw Reaction When 3-Year-Old Is Found After Being Missing For Days

The pure elation that this family must have felt is indescribable.Lost for 4 daysIt was a manhunt that had all of Australia on edge. Three-year-old Anthony “AJ” Elfalak had gone missing from his family's rural home, prompting a search that involved 385 people, The Washington Post reports.AJ’s mother, Kelly, thought the boy — who is on the autism spectrum and is unable to speak — had been kidnapped and a family friend agreed, but police didn't issue an Amber Alert. They thought something else must have happened.By the fourth day, it was looking less and less likely they'd find AJ.“Some of the searches we don’t have good outcomes, and we were getting to a timeline with this one that was sort of starting to fade,” Special Constable Kevin Drake, a helicopter pilot with the New South Wales police force’s aviation-support branch, told news outlets. An indescribable feeling of reliefThe Elfalaks live on nearly 700 acres of property that backs up on a "maze" of canyons, cliffs, and bushland. Spotting the boy through this terrain was an extremely tall task, especially considering he couldn't yell to let them know where he was.But at 11:30am on the fourth day of the search, Special Constable Drake spotted AJ drinking water from a muddy puddle.“I couldn't believe it, actually,” Drake told reporters on Monday. “It was a really good feeling.”Special Constable Kevin DrakeOn Instagram, Good News Movement shared the incredible moment when the Elfalak family heard the news.An unforgettable smileAfter being examined by doctors, AJ appeared to be "remarkably" healthy, with only cuts on his lower legs and a diaper rash.It is believed that he survived by drinking muddy water, and may have also hidden in a wombat hole to save him from the freezing cold rain that fell while he was lost.State Emergency Service Chief Inspector Simon Merrick reportedly said the moment AJ was rescued was truly unbelievable. As the rescuer walked over and put his hand on his shoulder, AJ "turned towards him with a massive smile on his face that he will not forget.”Miracles do happenFor the Elfalak family, all hope must have been lost. How could a toddler survive in such rough terrain, especially one on the autism spectrum? But thanks to a tremendous search effort, he was found. Perceptive Bartender Saves Women From Creep Who Won’t Take No For An Answer

When women go out for a night on the town, we often need to be more vigilant than men out on the party scene. Sexism is so rampant in our culture that a clear “no” from a woman is often not good enough to some men until another man steps in and says “no” even louder.Guardian bartenderA woman posted a tweet that said, “This man was harassing me and my friend and the bartender passed this note to me acting like it was my receipt! Legit the type of bartender everyone needs.”The note from the bartender reads, “If this guy is bothering you, put your ponytail on your other shoulder, and I will have him removed. He’s giving me the creeps.”The strategic move of asking the woman to move her ponytail onto her other shoulder is often what it takes to ensure safety in these situations. Since these predatory men can end up being potentially volatile or even violent towards women as well, these measures are necessary.“It’s something you just pick up from mentor bartenders. Eventually you become pretty good at reading people, body language etc.”- Max the BartenderAs Max the bartender explained on Reddit, “This guy was giving off very weird vibes for quite a while, kept an eye on him, try to give him a chance, try to let the girls tell him no and leave it at that, but he didn’t take no for an answer and kept pestering them so eventually I kind of yelled at him and made him leave lol.”Max explains, “I honestly don’t like yelling at customers or embarrassing people, but I find it’s one of the best ways to handle creeps. Calling them out in front of people is usually enough to get them to turn tail and walk away. I just don’t need my guests feeling uncomfortable.”An example to followIf all bartenders were this adept at reading body language and filtering out the creeps from the respectful patrons at their establishments women would be a lot safer in their spaces. But the main issue lies in the fact that the harasser’s behaviour stems from our patriarchal society that perpetuates the notion that his behavior is even acceptable. When in reality, it is not.The burden often falls solely on women to protect ourselves in these types of situations, but the truth is that male allyship is welcome and encouraged. When you are in a position to help another person, do so, irrespective of gender or any other divisive social lines.More uplifting storiesThe Weeknd Never Forgot The Friends Who Were There When He Was HomelessMan Goes From Janitor To Principal Of The School He Cleaned For 27 YearsStudent Raises $28,600 For Homeless Man Who Offered To Pay Her Taxi HomeMillionaire Shocks Neighbors By Inviting Homeless Couple To Live In His $4M House

Rail Worker Notices Distressed Young Woman And Acts Just In Time To Save Her Life

Everywhere you turn there is a person with the capacity to save someone’s life in some way, it is just a matter of whether or not they tap into their potential. And London rail worker Rizwan Javed sure does on a regular basis. Not all heroes wear capesHe wears his cape, a MTR rail uniform, proudly.Rizwan Javed works in West London on the MTR Elizabeth Line at Ealing Broadway station. In 2015, 30-year-old Rizwan completed the Samaritans’ Managing Suicidal Contacts training course.22,000 rail employees and British Transport Police officers have done the course so far as a railway suicide prevention measure. It’s given me a positive mindset, I want to continue to make a difference in my life and spread awareness so others can do the same.- Javed RizwanTo date, Rizwan has saved 29 lives on the railway. He won the 2018 Samaritans Lifesaver Award, an award that is given to those who use the power of effective and open communication to save lives. Rizwan has said that winning the award was “overwhelming.”Heroic actionsHe describes one particular incident where he had to put his training into practice. Rizwan says, “I was on a night shift one day and a young lady walked in.”The hero continues saying, “As I was going back to my office, I noticed the same person looking distressed. These were signs that rang alarm bells for me, and I had to react quickly.”Springing into action, Rizwan says, “Initially I phoned the signalmen who control our line, and I got a line block in place. [I then] ran over to the individual [and] made conversation - it wasn’t easy initially, it was hard to engage.”She had various thoughts in her head but eventually I talked her into a place of safety. After communicating with her for an hour, I called the British Transport Police who were going to come and assist her and provide support.- Javed RizwanRizwan adds, “We contacted her family who came down and were very supportive. Together all of the parties involved ensured she was safe and got the help she needed to potentially get back on track with her life and achieve all of the things she is capable of.”One week later, the woman reached out to Rizwan to thank him.“I noticed her from a distance, and she ran over and said ‘thank you’ to me, just for being there that night. It meant the world to me that she was ok and doing well for herself.”“Having this training quite early in my career gave me the confidence and awareness on how to identify vulnerable people and approach a vulnerable situation.”“The Samaritans has helped me help other people.”The power of conversationNever underestimate the power of a conversation. We are relational beings with the power to do good if we are so inclined. We can all be literal lifesavers when a person is vulnerable or down and in a dark place. A kind word, listening ear, engaging story, or even expression of care and interest has the power to change a person’s world from dismal to hopeful in an instant. And in some cases, such as with Rizwan Javed, it can save many lives.Today, Rizwan is a positive influence at the station and always makes sure to wish commuters a "good morning" and "lovely day." Sometimes, that’s exactly what a hero looks like.More uplifting stories:Man Walks 17 Miles A Day To Provide For His Family, Stranger Surprises Him With $52KPoor Man Who Missed Job Interview To Save A Life Had Employers Lining Up To Hire HimAt 311 Lbs, She Decided to Put Her Son First And Changed Her LifeBrooklyn Landlord Cancels Rent For Hundreds Of Tenants, Setting An Unprecedented Example For Others

Wife Trust Instincts And Persists After Husband Goes Missing - 17 Nights Later, He's Alive

For 17 nights, a fisherman's wife was worried sick for her husband who was missing in the forest. A massive rescue team searched for him night and day, until they finally found him, thankfully in good condition. Lost in the wildernessAfter avid fisherman Harry Burleigh didn't come home from a camping trip in the Toketee area of Oregon, his wife Stacy called the police. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the 69-year-old fisherman may have tried to walk to Twin Lakes in the Umpqua National Forest to fish before heading home. But he didn't make it back.A massive search operationSearch teams from 18 different emergency service departments and eight counties showed a tremendous amount of perseverance while out in the forest to look for Burleigh. Stacy posted updates on a Facebook group while search teams left packages of food on the trails in hopes he would find them to no avail. Then on May 16, 10 days after Burleigh went missing — searchers found a tackle box and makeshift shelter, but no missing fisherman."They left him a note and lighter and told him to make a fire and they would be back in to get him tomorrow," Stacey wrote on Facebook. "It took the team another six hours to get out. "All prayers and positive energy are needed for successfully finding Harry and the searchers getting themselves and Harry our safely TODAY!"Stacy BurleighFound at lastA week later and 18 days after the fisherman went missing, prayers were answered as rescuers found a makeshift shelter southwest of the original one, and called out for Burleigh. He responded, and was found in relatively good health. "After 17 nights in the wilderness, 69-year-old Harry Burleigh has been found alive and rescued by Search and Rescue crews who never gave up," police said in a news release. "He was found to be walking and complaining of minor pain, but was in stable condition. A Brim Aviation helicopter was utilized to hoist Burleigh from his location and transport him to a waiting Lifeflight helicopter." Burleigh was taken to hospital but returned home to his family that evening."This was the outcome we all have been looking for in this case," said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Brad O'Dell in the release. "The Sheriff's Office wants to thank everyone who was involved in this mission."A region came together to save a lifeIn all, 40 rescuers searched for Burleigh — that's a tremendous effort from various communities — and it all paid off. 7-Year-Old Swims In Strong Current For An Hour To Save Dad And Sister From Drowning

When your life and the lives of your loved ones are in danger, there is really no telling how far a person can go. The possibilities are almost limitless. Love and survival are two of the strongest forces and intuitive modalities in the universe. When the fear of losing someone close to you presents itself, you go into action mode, and that’s exactly what one 7-year-old did to save his sister, father and himself.Memorable Memorial DaySteven Poust brought his two young children boating on St. John’s River in Jacksonville, Florida for some fishing fun over Memorial Day weekend. Steven anchored down the boat so that Abigail, 4, and Chase, 7, could enjoy some swimming.Normally Abigail stays at the back of the boat, but because the current was so strong, Abigail had to let go. When Chase saw what happened to his sister, he immediately reacted, letting go as well so that Abigail would not drift. Except, as soon as he jumped in, Chase was stuck as well.Steven jumped in after his children to save them. "I told them I loved them because I wasn't sure what was going to happen."- Steven PoustSteven explains, "I tried to stick with her as long as I could, and both of them really. I wore myself out. She drifted away from me."Chase to the rescuePoust told Chase to swim to shore and get help while he would try to reach Abigail. Luckily, Abigail was wearing a life jacket, which kept her afloat.Chase bravely swam to shore, taking an hour to get there. When asked by CNN affiliate WJXT if he got tired while swimming, Chase confirmed that he did, saying that he swam doggie paddle and floated on his back to conserve energy. After Chase swam a mile to reach the shore, he ran to the nearest house for help, and help was officially on the way.Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) was dispatched to the boat’s location but when they got there, they had to call in other agencies to help with the search. Steven and Abigail had drifted approximately one and a half to two miles away from the boat. The ideal outcomeJFRD Spokesperson Eric Prosswimmer said at a news conference, "We had every resource we could have possibly had coming quickly and we're happy to say all three have been recovered, and all three are doing well.""We couldn't ask for a better outcome," PostSwimmer adds.Chase Poust is being hailed internationally as a hero and rightfully so. The exceptionally courageous 7-year-old swam a mile by himself on a rescue mission to save his family. “We’re here. Step-Siblings Rescue 5-Year-Old Brother Starved And Locked In 'Harry Potter' Room

In one of the most horrifying cases in recent memory, a woman in Spring, Texas, severely neglected her stepson by locking him away and not giving him any food. But by some miracle, the boy's step-siblings managed to defy their guardians and come to the rescue. His siblings saved his lifeThe family called the tiny closet 5-year-old Jordan was locked up in the "Harry Potter room" because it was under the stairs and had nails sticking out on all sides. When the boy's step-brother, Cody, opened the door one day — to the fury of his guardians — he was horrified not just at the conditions Jordan was living in, but the shocking state of the boy's health."His face was all caved in, bruises all over, marks on him. His mouth was foaming. I have never in my life seen anything as bad as that," Cody told Sun Online. "If we hadn't got him out that day I don't think he would have survived."Cody quickly handed his step-brother — who was in only a diaper and covered in bumps and bruises — to another one of his siblings, Allison, and they called the police."It was like I wasn't holding anything -- he was so light -- it wasn't like holding a kid at all," Allison said. "He was so, so white and his cheeks were sunken and he smelled terrible -- it was just awful."The boy was starved and neglectedPolice arrived and arrested Tammi Bleimeyer, 37, as well as her husband Bradley. The Bleimeyers had prohibited Jordan from eating meals with the rest of the family, and only gave him a slice of bread to eat if he was lucky — they took the food away if he didn't eat it fast enough.Jordan was also allegedly drugged by his father to keep him quiet when guests arrived. He was also beaten and even tased, Cody told police. When Jordan was finally rescued thanks to his siblings, doctors compared the boy's state to that of a survivor of the Nazi death camps.Irreparable harmAt the sentencing hearing in 2018, two of Tammi Bleimeyer's biological sons took the stand to call out the irreparable harm their mother's actions had on the entire family. "It's no mystery why we're all here,' one of the sons said in a prepared statement, according to The Daily Mail. "You made a big mistake, and ultimately have to face the consequences.""I'm up here to ask a rhetorical question of how, how could you put your children through all that? The people who should be your pride and joy.""You caused me feelings of sadness, anger, confusion, and emptiness. I can't say that I'll ever be the same emotionally because of this."The judge ruled that the Bleimeyers were guilty of injury to a child by omission and sentenced to 28 years and 15 years in prison respectively. As for Jordan, he was placed in the custody of his biological mother and the rest of the children were placed in Child Protective Services custody.A tremendous act of braveryIt is seriously hard to believe how any one could do something so horrific to another human being, especially one so young and innocent as Jordan. But thankfully, the story doesn't have a tragic ending as the boy was saved thanks to the bravery of his step-siblings. Two Strangers Save Man From Burning Home While Others Stand By Recording

When nobody was willing to step up, two brave men risked their lives to save a stranger from a fiery fate. Where there's smokeTre Jones and his friend Marcus Harvey were driving in Marion, Indiana when they smelled smoke nearby. Sure enough, they spotted a house on South Adams Street in flames with smoke billowing out of it.“I’m like ‘I smell smoke, I smell smoke. Somebody’s house is on fire," Jones recounted to WTHR.There were no firemen on the scene when the two arrived. When they did, people around were saying that others were trapped inside. They basically tell us there's a guy inside the house. We didn't know where he was at, just heard him screaming and everything.- Marcu Harvey Even worse is that instead of doing something, they were standing by filming it all on their cell phones. They took actionWith no time to waste, the two friends swooped into action. Jones recalled the chaos to CBS.I kicked the door open and boom, and then fire and smoke started coming out. When I heard his voice screaming, I just felt like I knew I could get him out.Tre JonesThey managed to drag the man to safety as firefighters finally arrived and rushed him to a hospital in Ft. Wayne. It turns out that the victim, 56-year-old Guy Tarlton, had fallen asleep while cooking when a spark set the house aflame. The house had no smoke alarm.Don't wait for someone to actAlthough the two men were unable to visit Guy due to Covid restrictions, they are keeping in touch with the family. “I wish him the best recovery, and I’m praying for his friends and family,” said Harvey. However, Tartlon's nephew had a chance to meet and personally thank the two men who saved his uncle's life. "They just had an instinct of human nature to save a person if you hear them saying help," he said.I don’t say I’m a super hero, but I’m human. I help when I can help.Tre Jones It's hard to say what part of this story is more impressive: The two men's bravery or everyone else's inaction. If Jones and Harvey showed us anything, it's how unacceptable it is to stand by and watch as someone's life is literally going up in flames. That doesn't mean rushing into a burning home and dragging someone to safety. One thing it can't be is recording like a scene out of 'Nightcrawler' as precious seconds tick away.
