A young boy’s actions in the face of danger proved that not all heroes wear capes.

Typically, nine year olds don’t pay too close attention to the things that are going on around them. Little kids are often busy with school work or playdates with friends, and have to be reminded of the risks involved in day-to-day activities.

However, for one young Tennessee boy, awareness of his surroundings is what saved him and his whole family from a tragic end

Tristan Cook was watching television one day with his three younger siblings, aged 7, 5, and 3, when he heard a strange sound. The popping sound coming from the office was unusual, so Tristan tapped into his other senses to try and understand what was going on.

Soon, he smelled smoke. Tristan quickly raised the alarm and alerted his family to what was going on — there was a house fire breaking out!

Thanks to Tristan’s quick-thinking, his whole family was able to escape the flames without any injuries. Unfortunately, the fire raged and damaged a significant portion of the Cook family home.

Upon investigation, rescue teams found that the fire was electrical and spread quickly — the family was very lucky that Tristan was alert and aware when it broke out.

I was so proud and so blessed that he got us all out. He warned us all.
