This dinner date inspired two people from afar.

Not all of us have grandparents, but for those of us who do, we’re lucky if we get to spend a lot of time with them growing up.

There’s a unique and undeniable bond between grandparents and grandchildren, and the memories you make together can last a lifetime.

So when one couple in Arizona noticed a grandmother and her grandson on a dinner date together, they were incredibly touched.

Gretchen Caiazzo and her 14-year-old grandson Cole were out for dinner in Chandler, Arizona, one night, just enjoying each other’s company. According to Faithpot, they were chatting it up and enjoying their meals, oblivious to what was happening around them.

So they had no idea that a couple nearby was watching them, or that they were touched at what a sweet moment and memory-in-the-making they were witnessing.

When the check came, Gretchen and Cole were both surprised that the strangers had decided to pay for their meal. Not only that, but they left a sweet note explaining why.

“We enjoyed watching your special date,” the note read. “It got us talking about how much we miss those times with our own grandmothers. This time is so precious. Love that you’re living memories together. Enjoy each other. God bless, Vernon & Christine.”

Obviously Gretchen and Cole hadn’t expected anyone to pay for their meal, and they were genuinely touched that someone would do something so kind. The act even solidified the memory for them even further, ensuring neither one would forget that time the two strangers bought them dinner.

Cole’s father, Adam, later posted about the encounter on social media because he, too, was impressed by the kind act.

“Random acts of kindness amaze me!!!” the firefighter wrote, as per the publication. “I’m so grateful there is still beauty and kindness in this world, especially when it seems so far to find some days!”

How Strangers Proved That It’s the Small Things That Matter

Sometimes we can forget how lucky we are to still have family and the people that matter to us in our lives.

It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and the overall hastiness of the world, but there are people out there who would give anything for more time with a loved one who has passed.

This story reminds us of that. Time is fleeting, so it’s important to make those memories now while we still can. So, if you’ve been holding off on reaching out to a loved one or waiting to get together until things calm down, don’t. Make the phone call, send that text, or plan that date.

And if you are missing a loved one, maybe consider doing something kind for others to honor that person like this couple did that one night in Arizona.
