Drake Surprises 11-Year Old Girl Awaiting Heart Transplant, Inspires Us to Be More Compassionate

Sofia Sanchez may only be 11 years old, but she has faced more adversity than most kids her age: The sweet little girl is awaiting a heart transplant at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

However, recently she had a special visitor that made her day a lot brighter.

Sofia has cardiomyopathy, and 3 weeks ago, received open heart surgery. While she was recovering, she decided to do the "Keke Challenge." She filmed the dance in the hospital hallway, with an IV attached to her arm and a smile on her face.

In the video, the little girl danced to Drake's song, "In My Feelings," and because of the magic of the Internet, Drake ended up seeing the video!

After seeing it, he decided to fly to Chicago and visit Sanchez in the hospital.

"Right when he came in I was like, 'Oh my God.' And I never pictured him that tall," Sanchez said in a video produced by the hospital. "I didn't talk for a minute. I was like, 'Is this real or fake?'"

This all happened as the best birthday present ever, it was two days after Sanchez’s 11th birthday!

"It's a miracle. Because it's one of the first wishes I got in a long time... I wanted him to come cheer me up for my birthday this weekend," she said. "This is the best birthday present I ever had."

Drake gave Sanchez a beautiful birthday present and also a much-needed distraction. And apparently they are going to keep in touch! "Talk to you on FaceTime!" she called out to Drake as she said goodbye.

Sure, we're not all world-famous rappers, but we can all do something to make a person feel better during a tough time. Perhaps it can be a funny video or a friendly visit, or something as simple as sending them their favorite cookies. Just let them know they are in your heart and mind, and let them have a bit of fun for a while. It can go a long way.
