Bradley Cooper and Girlfriend Huma Abedin Are Your Favorite New "It" Couple - Here's Why

Oscar Winner Bradley Cooper proves opposites do attract in his latest relationship with former Hillary Clinton advisor Huma Abedin.

Back in 2013, George Clooney, the world’s most famous confirmed bachelor met an incredibly intelligent and successful human rights attorney named Amal Alamuddin. Fast forward nine years and this unlikely couple have eight years of marriage under their belts along with five-year-old twins. Now, there’s another surprising and unlikely couple catching the public’s attention and interest. The former aide to Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, is dating actor and serial monogamist Bradley Cooper.

Abedin and Cooper connected in early spring and so far, according to People, they are keeping things casual and getting to know one another. Reportedly, Cooper is fascinated by Abedin and why wouldn’t he be? She’s an accomplished and intelligent woman who worked as an advisor and aide to Hillary Clinton for 25 years, which he finds “intriguing and challenging.”

Like Clooney and Alamuddin, there’s an appeal for incredibly famous people to be with someone who is not a part of Hollywood life but maintains a high degree of success in their field.

Huma Abedin Was Formerly Married to Anthony Weiner

Huma Abedin was previously married to disgraced former U.S. Congressman Anthony Weiner. They met in 2007, married in 2010 (Bill Clinton officiated the ceremony), and were one of Washington D.C.’s most visible power couples for six years. In 2013, the media revealed that Weiner had been sexting girls and women under the pseudonym, Carlos Danger. The first sexting scandal revealed Weiner sent a specific body part photo to a 21-year-old woman. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette described the photo as an ”erection barely covered by a man's underwear.”

It turns out that was merely the tip of the iceberg with Weiner. He resigned from Congress in June 2011 after more messages with suggestive photos were uncovered. In 2016, Weiner was investigated by the FBI for sexting a 15-year-old girl. Huma filed for divorce from Weiner in 2017. Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison.

Abedin was born to two college professors in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1975. As a teenager, Abedin aspired to have a career in journalism like her idol Christine Amanpour. She attended George Washington University where she received a BA in journalism with a minor in political science.

While an undergrad in 1996, she was a White House intern assigned to then-First Lady Hillary Clinton. She became Clinton’s aide and personal advisor during her 2000 U.S. Senate campaign. She was Clintons traveling chief of staff during her campaign for the 2008 Democratic nomination for President. She served as deputy chief of staff for Clinton during her years as Secretary of State until 2013. In 2015, she was named the vice chair of Clinton’s 2016 campaign for President.

Actor Bradley Cooper’s romantic history can only be described as serial monogamy. He was married to actress Jennifer Esposito from October 2006 until November 2007. He dated Renee Zellweger from 2009 to 2011, and Zoe Saldana from December 2011 to March 2013.

That same month, Cooper began dating model Suki Waterhouse, who is 17 years younger than the A Star is Born director. They broke up in 2013 and he later started dating model Irina Shayk. They were together for more than four years and had a daughter together in 2017. Before meeting Abedin, Cooper was linked to actress Diana Aragon.

Cooper and Abedin met earlier this year when infamous Vogue Editor Anna Wintour introduced them. Wintour is reportedly friends with both Cooper and Abedin and thought they’d make a good match. Wintour is a close friend of Abedin and was very supportive in the wake of her ex-husband’s sexting scandal.

The new couple reportedly arrived at the 2002 Met Gala together but walked the red carpet separately. Page Six reports that the couple bonded over their mutual interest in “power, politics, and human affairs.” Cooper and Abedin do have another thing in common, they are both friendly with their exes and happily co-parent young children. Abedin shares a 10-year-old son, Jordan, with ex-husband Anthony Weiner. Cooper has a 5-year-old daughter, Lea De Seine, with ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk.

Other Celebrities With Non-celebrity Spouses

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin

Bradley Cooper and Huma Abedin join the list of power couples containing one A-lister and one non-celeb. George and Amal Clooney are certainly the most well-known relationship in this regard. The Academy Award winner met the human rights attorney in September 2013 when she accompanied a mutual friend to Cooney’s home in Lake Como, Italy.

Sparks flew instantly and they married in Venice, Italy in 2014. Clooney spent many, many years swearing up and down he’d never marry again (he was briefly married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993) and he’d never have kids. George and Amal welcomed twins Ella and Alexander in 2017.

Keanu Reeves shocked fans worldwide in  2018 when he made his red carpet debut with his longtime (but formerly unknown to the public) girlfriend Alexandra Grant. Us Weekly reported that the two met at a dinner party in 2009 and quickly became friends. In 2011, Grant drew the illustrations for Reeves’ first book of poetry, Ode to Happiness. Grant is an artist who works in the mediums of painting, drawing, sculpting, and video. The couple has dated publicly for four years, but neither has admitted how long they were together before their red carpet debut in 2018.

Going back to the last century, Grace Kelly was a celebrated Academy Award-winning actress who met, fell in love with and married a real-life Prince. The icy-blonde, best known for her roles in Alfred Hitchcock films, attended the 1955 Cannes Film Festival where she was introduced to Prince Rainier III, the Prince of Monaco. The two had their first date at his palace on May 6. 1955. After dating for a year, the American actress married the European Prince on May 6, 1955. Kelly retired from acting at 26 to become the Princess of Monaco. The couple had three children, Princess Caroline, Prince Albert, and Princess Stephanie.

Whether it's Clooney, Reeves, or Cooper, these celebs show that brains and talent mean more to a relationship than Hollywood status.
